Been watching Masters Sunday broadcasts. Started with 86, then watched 81, now doing 89. Apparantly for all the 80's the go-to club on #12 was 6-iron. That just seems nuts now.

Watched ‘89 the other night. It’s fantastic! Incredible how Faldo was able to win.

Nantz asks Weiskopf what Jack is thinking about right now

His reply?

"Well, if I knew that, I'd have won a lot more!"

Also,

#17

It was kind of classic Faldo. Just play super steady and let other people make mistakes. Similar to Nicklaus throughout his career.

Tried to forget how terrible ken Venturi was. Man, he almost ruins the entire broadcast.

Watched 1990 and moving on to the 1991 edition. If you did a shot every time they referred to Woosnam being short it would get messy fast.

Looks like golf is going to be allowed (with serious social distancing requirements) in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Glad to see that, hope people don't **** it up.

We can golf here (WV). Similar one to a cart every 15 minutes stuff. Which will be funny because really only one of them had tee times before One had them weekend mornings and the third never. Courses here are usually uncrowded. Mostly muni-level simple short stuff.

Unfortunately, my area is the two top counties of West Virginia's northern panhandle. Our three public courses are all within 3 miles of the PA state line within 30 miles of Pittsburgh, and PA is closed tight. The back nine of one of them is physically within PA. I think it is still open though.

When PA closed it's liquor stores we had to bar Pennsylvanians from buying liquor because a swarm of thirsty yinzers descended upon us like locusts.. Then they drove through the panhandle to Ohio and those counties had to ban them.

I wonder if the same thing is going to happen with golf when word gets out...

Golf channel was replaying a LPGA tournament from 2014. Watching Michelle Wie’s tabletop putting method is as painful today as it was then.

Following up here so as not to clutter the gear purchase thread, re Scott purchasing a golf cart:

If you'd asked me ten years ago if the idea of living in Florida in a golf course community had any appeal I would have said hell no on multiple levels.

I must be getting old because it's starting to sound pretty sweet. I keep seeing photos and videos on twitter of pros practicing in their back yard or working out by the pool. It'd be fun tooling around on a cart. Having more convenient access to a course and range would be nice.

Yeah it wasn't a difficult time to convince the wife to move to the golf course community. She wanted the beach, then she saw how much a shitty condo cost there, and that was the end of that.

By far the best thing is to go get an emergency 9 in at the end of the day, or first thing depending on schedule. Now that I have a cart I can go out to a couple of holes before it gets dark out to practice if I want too.

Since it has been raining all day I have been going through my stats for April. I have had 6 rounds where I turned in 37 or better, and have fell on my face on the back in every single one of em.

34-40-74
37-43-80
37-40-77
34-40-74
37-40-77
33-40-73

A small percentage of it is the back 9 on both courses are more difficult. The rest of it is ????? I must be getting tight lately when I see an under par round going. Pure mental. Need to figure this out.

can you play the back 9 first?
Spoiler:
actually a serious question
Spoiler:
you know you have the ability to play the back well, and you've also proven you can score on the front. you just need to train your brain

One of the courses, yes. The other no since it doesn't come back to the clubhouse.

Did it again today 37 front, 42 back.

well you have a cart just drive your ass out there and take care of business!
are the non-optimal scores on the back nines on the same holes? if so, please describe.

Updated FAQ on Michigan stay-home order re golf:

Quote:
Q: Are golf courses allowed to be open?

A: Yes, subject to strict conditions as required by this order and Executive Order 2020-43, governing places of public accommodation. Tee times must be scheduled and payments must be made in advance, online or by phone. Tee times must be spaced to avoid multiple foursomes from clustering or gathering at any stage of the course, and players must remain six feet from one another at all times. Maintenance workers and groundskeepers can come to work to maintain the safety and sanitation of the course, but neither the course nor its workers may provide goods, supplies, equipment, or services to golfers on premises. Accordingly, caddies, starters, and golf carts may not be provided, and clubhouses, pro shops, driving ranges, and miniature golf courses must remain closed. The order, however, does not prohibit a golf course from arranging for an accommodation for a golfer with a disability who requires one under state or federal law; confirmation of and arrangements for any such necessary accommodation must be carried out with the course in advance, online or by phone. Food and beverage may be sold for takeout, but may not otherwise be served to golfers. Under the order, all work must be carried out remotely to the greatest extent possible, and any in-person work that is permitted must be done in accordance with the mitigation measures required under section 11 of the order—including the heightened social-distancing rules required under section 11(h).
The FAQ was updated today after golf was unbanned on Friday.

So I paid cash inside yesterday (wearing a mask, which was required to enter). Can't do that again. And the driving range was open. NOPE. Can't do that either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that we can walk the course and judging from the turnout so are lots of other people. But it would drive me crazy if I were a golf course operator trying to deal with the constantly shifting regulations.

LOL, now I expect it will probably get shut down again. Good job advertising that you aren't going to follow the rules.

Quote:
The Monday update on the state website didn't discourage Moose Ridge from cutting off carts, particularly since the course isn't easily walkable.

"We're not looking for a fight here," said Bill Shortt, Moose Ridge's owner. "We're just trying to run a business."

Moose Ridge estimated it lost nearly $200,000 in revenue during the state's five-week golf shutdown that included public courses, as private clubs were allowed to continue letting dues-paying members walk the grounds. That's a huge chunk for any Michigan golf course, given they operate under such a short season, because of the weather.

Moose Ridge, like so many courses, has taken several safety precautions, including puttying Styrofoam in cups to prevent the touching of flag sticks, the removal of rakes around sand traps, and encouraging strict social distancing among players, who should stay at least 6 feet apart.

Bill Shortt said Moose Ridge also is cleaning its carts so thoroughly after each round that "they're cleaner than the emergency room."

Its driving range also remains open, with golfers spread apart, golf balls picked up by a machine, and then sterilized between one golfer and the next.

I put this in the wrong thread .

Take away the PGA tour when do you think a person can go out in Arizona per say play 18 holes and either have breakfast prior to the round or grab a beer and some food? Also not have a raised cup and rakes in the bunkers and a beer cart

I really should! Holes 10-12 are quite difficult along with 15 (and 17). It's just a tough side but being further into the round you would think that I would be in a groove by then. Guess not.

scott - do you snack mid round to keep your energy and mental focus up? i've found that can make a big difference. also curious how many balls you hit on the range before a round (if any).

I was going to mention this. Eat something nutritious on hole 6 or 7.

I will def do that. Only time I eat something is when I am on one of the courses at the turn on the weekend, when the shack is open.

Florida resident rates at Streamsong already. $89 to walk the Black, playing it Friday. Blue and Red are closed as the re-sod the greens with some new bermuda strain.

the old geezers in my group have been bringing their own PB&Js to the course for decades now. without fail the ziplock bag comes out somewhere between 7 & 9. Their game doesn’t slow down, seems to only get better on the back 9.
