It is only going to be great for the hardcore golfers. No one can possibly argue that the ratings suck without Tiger and that the average golfer tends to not watch golf when Tiger isnt in contention

I honestly never hear that. And I will admit I wish tiger/phil were in contention. It would be more interesting for me. But I love the masters no matter what.

The ratings matter for the popularity of the sport, but Spieth winning could also begin the process of giving golf it's next superstar to drive ratings after Tiger.

However, with Tiger and Phil not around for the weekend, this leaderboard is pretty close to a best case scenario. You'd have Westwood not falling apart, and Rory and Scott in the mix, but this is wildly entertaining.

But this is The Masters, non-golf fans watch just because it's the Masters same as non-golf fans watch just because it's Tiger. To many, names don't matter at all at The Masters.
