I'm going Memorial Day weekend and looking to play twice. Any advice?

We're staying right by Sonoma Golf Club, which used to have the season ending Champions Tour Event. Same designer as Harding Park and Olympic Club. Looks quite private.

Sounds fun. I didn't play golf there but went to wine country in 2007 with my wife and that area is gorgeous. I'm sure you'll find something. That's probably the only time I'd want to drink wine while playing golf.

That's my neck of the woods. My home course is Windsor Golf Club (just north of Santa Rosa) a shortish course that holds its own with several lakes a creek and small greens defending. It's on old farm land and there are nice views (NO HOUSES!) of the Mayacamas from the hill that has has three tee shots and three greens play on it. Nike tour played here in the 90's with Tom Lehman and Stuart Appleby champions.Worth the 45 minute drive from Sonoma Golf Club. Near you that I would recommend are Hiddebrooke ( Palmer design, LPGA played here a few times), Eagle Vines and Chardonnay, both play through the vineyards.

PM me if you want more info.

Chardonnay is fun. Surrounded by vineyards. Rooster Run in Petaluma is good as is Stonetree in Novato.

wow, nice courses, not that expensive and not that far from san francisco.........

gonna append this here. but what are the best public courses in the east bay? i've played bridges and wente vineyards. both very nice.... i see poppy hills is really expensive..... i know there are alot of nice ones out behind oakland (describes most of the area i know). i think cain and posey from the giants live behind oakland so it must be really nice.

Eagle Vines and Chardonnay are both nice and economical courses. Both usually in good shape.

I used to play in a skins game at Stonetree often. It's a nice course in awesome shape with about 3 kinda silly holes.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Silverado. There are 2 courses there and they were always hurting for business. They used to hold a Sr PGA event there and theyre playing Frys.com PGA event there this year.

Eagle Vines is nice. Confirmed course winds through lots of vines, and I saw over a dozen eagles. Convenient location in south valley too IIRC.

Thanks a ton!

We played Eagle Vines on the Saturday before Memorial Day. Teed off around 1pm, weather was great, and I expected it to be packed but it wasn't bad at all. We let a single through on 2 while we watched a slow looking foursome play 1 so we basically had the course to ourselves all day. Tough course, great views, great condition, really smooth greens, and I think it cost $60.

Sunday we played Oakmont (West Course). Much easier, flat, surrounded by houses, cost the same amount. It was a lot busier, reasonable pace of play but we waited a little on every shot. Still had fun, but it's no contest between the two.
