I have a bet for $100,000 next Tuesday and here are the rules. I have to walk the entire round backwards and carry my clubs. I can turn around to set up for my shot and then have to pick up my bag and walk backwards. I have to break 100 to win.

First thought was its a lock, what am I missing. The person I am betting gets to pick the course, somewhere in Vegas. I am assuming Cascata or The Falls, any other ideas?

I am a 3.1 handicap and can dig deep and grind out a 15 mile walk backwards for $100,000.

Has anyone ever tried this?

so if you accidently move forward after a shot do you lose? Walking backwards up hills will be fun.

Is he aware your index is 3.1?

Unless there are alligators or some other kind of deadly traps (cliffs, deep hidden bunkers, etc.) that would catch you off guard, I think you got a 90% chance of cashing. Even better if you can play the course beforehand.

The only catch is if he puts a time limit on you finishing, which may come into play if you hit more than your share of lost shots.

There is no time limit and no DQ for an accidental step. Supposedly the guy says its impossible, but I think I can do it.

What are the toughest courses in Vegas he might choose?

So weird you have this bet. My friend just had this bet.

Charlie = +.06
Frank says I'll bet you $200 you can't break 85 (on a course where if you don't break par, it's a bad day). He says 85? WTF you talking about. Frank says , no no you have to walk backwards. Never walk forward unless you fall off balance on a shot. Charlie hated the fact that he had to walk but he lost the bet on 3 after reading a putt and walking forward on accident.

Charlie threw his putter in the lake and then went and broke his 3 wood and driver.

If you have a solid routine, this bet is so hard. The score is not the point in this bet, it's your routine. I wouldn't take this bet, especially for that kind of money.

Get a rearview mirror so you don't step on something and twist your ankle.

Really though, it would seem trippy (no pun intended) but you're still hitting the same shot once you set up. It would be like taking a cart with your eyes closed or something else stupid. Don't worry about how you get to your ball, just worry about hitting your shots.

if I make a small step forward its not a problem, just go back and start walking backwards. It has to be a course in Vegas, I think Wolf Creek is in Mesquite.

Wow, I think you could tie my left foot to my ass and I could break 100. I haven't tried this, so there must be some angle he is shooting. It does use different muscles to walk backwards, but you'd have to be in pretty bad shape for that to cost you 20+ strokes.

Well I think the trick is that at some point he's likely to forget what he's doing and walk forward, e.g. after a putt. What if he has a two foot putt, instinct is to step forward and pull it out of the hole. That would be a loss. I can't speak to how much the constant distraction of needing to remember to turn around after every shot would be, but with unlimited time I would think he could settle in over the ball and play fairly well.

If it is at Cascata, this will be brutal... It is like a half-mile walk between some holes it seems, and there are lots of areas where you double track up and down the same hills to get to tee-boxes.... It also plays long and tough from the tips...

however, if you are a 3.1 this should be no problem if you are in good/decent shape... I am a scratch and i would take this bet at 90 but no lower...

Has anyone ever walked WC forward and lived? Maybe Lance Armstrong or Bill Rodgers. I don't think they'd even let you walk forward, let alone backward.

I had totally forgotten about that. I saw Gavin a ton the past few weeks and he never mentioned it. I would not mind if he wanted to drop the bet, but would try and do it if he wants to.

I think it depends more on who you bet (is he more on the nit side, or a prop bet sucker? old timer, or younger guy?, etc). Also depends on the rules, how they are enforced, etc.
