They are almost always using Shotlink stats as a reference for a percentage. Maybe some ex-players just guess, but if that's the case they're usually pretty damn close to the right number.

Some 8 footers are straight in. Some 8 footers have a double-break. I think most announcers are usually aware of this and set the shot up accordingly.

I really enjoyed Faldo this past Sunday at the Buick. I think he's hitting his stride. He says just enough and then gets out of the way, and has a great sense of humor. I'd like to hear more Baker-Finch, too.

Except that McCord was able to respond with the fact that he'd won one on that very course.

That whole exchange was part of what brought me to post though. McCord was just ****ing loopy the whole time and couldn't stop making some wiseass comment.

I can't really fault him for the para-sailing guy. They're showing this dude as background and then it looks like he crashers, wtf are they supposed to do.

nantz is the **** (edit: nantz is good). kostis is great, and i really love faldo because he's always speaking from experience (i know nantz played college golf and no idea about kostis) but there is something about a multi-major winner doing color that makes it more intriguing.

Yeah they definitely do this, blatantly. You'll see a guy hit a shot, then they'll do some segment or other diversion, then fifteen minutes later he's hitting his next shot. Or, conversely, he's hitting a shot that is ostensibly "live" and then ten seconds later he's already hitting his next one. I have no idea why they do this, it's a screwed up flow. I guess they think the average viewer won't care, or they don't want to mention it's taped, or maybe they don't want you to have the slightest clue when the next meaningful shot is going to be hit so you don't change the channel. It's one of many reasons I didn't mind ABC backing out of every event except for the British.

Nantz does have a little street cred because of his golf background, but for the most part the host should just direct traffic. I don't want Dan Hicks busting out with some analysis any more than I want Kevin Harlan analyzing a complex basketball play to Doug Collins. Luckily they seem to know their limitations and/or are smart enough to defer to those around them.

berman at US open was a joke, and i actually found it kind of funny. maybe it was cause we knew it would never happen again. when he said "cooch" refering to kutcher i lost it. i was kind of hoping he'd call him "cooch-daddy" at some point.

mccord is really the only commentator in golf that i genuinely dislike. i dont mind miller, although i dont particularaly like him either. lerner's bearable i guess.

i agree that faldo is really getting into a groove, and i really like that he'll be on for a while to come. nantz, maltbie, pepper, kostis and baker-finch are all great, obv. and oosterhuis is my fav.

I've watched a ton of golf like you guys. I've always thought judy rankin was the best.

lol. I just thought it was funny because Nick Faldo is like 200x the golfer McCord ever was and he has been on really good nice british man behavior since he became an announcer, but he reverted to "heart of my bottom" Faldo for a second there.

As for the crashing parasailor, I thought McCord was kind of making light of it. I seriously thought the guy was dead and McCord was acting really flippant about it. I kind of got the feeling the others were like "uh oh" and were kind of letting McCord hang himself if in fact the guy was dead.

We used to be blessed with Kevin Harlan and Trent Tucker as the everygame announcers for the Timberwolves. Those were the days. Garnett was dubbed " Big Ticket " by Harlan and Tucker would often deliver many observant lines about how " The Timberwolves must continue to put put the ball into the basket." or " I feel ya young fella. " to which we would always add the line deep inside my arse.lol.

Maybe it's his support staff combined with being on unfamiliar courses with more non-americans (with, perhaps, non-network feeds?). But I thought too many times Tirico gives you, "And here is uh, [pause... waiting for clue in his ear piece...] Oliver uh Wilson. He's playing, uh [pause...] uh, number 7." This doesn't happen on the other broadcasts.
