I'll spare everyone the big tl;dr about my golf career so far. It's pretty simple, I just suck, I have been in the probably 12-20 handicap zone for what seems like forever, my short game has gotten a little better over the years but my ball striking has stayed consistently awful the entire time ( about 6-7 years). I've just gotten to the point where I think my swing may be too broken to fix, like everytime I go to the range I'm polishing a turd. Basically my question for you guys is whats the best/ fastest way to almost completely reconstruct your swing? Hire a coach? some sort of golf camp? I've heard of some websites that u send vid of your swing into for detailed analysis. Any thoughts you guys on the subject would be appreciated.

The best way to improve is to find a Golf Professional in your area. Take a lesson, if you like him/her, if they connect with you, sign up for a series of lessons. Find a pro you like. Then listen to them and practice. If you could get better thats the best way to go.

taking at least one lesson is a good idea. in one lesson, an experienced pro gave me many minor-moderate swing fixes that really helped me, then i was able to figure a little bit more out on my own..

would have had no idea otherwise..... did i have weak/strong grip? this one might have been obvious, but not to me.....did i stand too close/too far from the ball?.... one backswing idea. and that fixed something else...... and none of it felt like "swing thoughts" of which i've probably had 100 of my own over the years/

looking forward to more lessons from the pro when a) it warms up; b) my knee heals...

Yeah I wasn't trying to troll. Just thought if you are capable of doing it you can learn the right way this time. My dad golfs left-handed. In baseball I'm a switch-hitter and sometimes at the range I'll even hit a ball from the left side just to see if I notice anything that I might be leaving out from the right side. You hit so many balls from your normal side that sometimes it's hard to even feel what you're doing wrong.

lessons are the best way to go unless you know alot about the golf swing where you can video tape your swing from multiple angles and then go back and analyze it

meltdown - saw your post, and hopefully you can get your game to the level you desire. I worked for a golf school for 3 years before teaching privately, so I have experience in both areas, and thought I might give some insight into what you could expect and what you might consider in trying to find an instructor.

First, most people's swings do not need to be "broken down" & rebuilt - it may feel that way (especially to the student), but a good instructor will find a few small "root causes" and allow those to change major problems, then when you've mastered those, they will make additional adjustments. You would be amazed at how a few simple fundamental adjustments can change your game drastically!

If you really want to improve and get "serious" about lessons/practice, be prepared to spend some money & a lot of time. There's really no shortcut to improvement, but you need to be practicing the correct things (love the comment about "polishing a turd"!).

Golf schools are great for a huge amount of information over a short period of time - the problem comes when you get home & have questions - you really don't have anyone to go to for clarification. The other issue with golf schools is that you are only going to get a limited amount of one-on-one time with an instructor. For the money you spend, you could get more individual time with an instructor in your area.

If you know of a good instructor in your area, I'd recommend spending an hour with them and explaining your goals. See what they suggest & if you feel comfortable with their style, set up some regular lessons & see what packages they offer. I offer a 6 & 12 month Unlimited package for students who want to take multiple lessons, and it's a huge success, although I don't know of any other instructors who offer that type of package (with the exception of a couple of guys who worked for me who do it). I also offer a weekend individual golf school - 8 hours of instruction over a weekend which includes time on the golf course. I mention these not because I think you're going to come to me for lessons, but to show that there are programs available other than the 6 lesson package, which IMO is not a great package for someone wanting to improve - you're going to want to do something on a regular basis & 6 lessons is probably not going to be enough time to cover the complete game. I'd also make sure the instructor gets with you on the golf course to help you manage your game and see how you perform in the "real world."

You're certainly invited to post your swing on here & I'll be happy to give some suggestions, or if you let me know where you live, I'll give you some names of instructors I would recommend in the area (if I know some in that area).

You can improve & enjoy the game more, and with the proper guidance, you'll be practicing with a purpose as opposed to just experimenting on the range & ingraining bad habits.

Good luck with finding an instructor, and if I can be of any help, please let me know!

The secret is in the dirt. First try digging it out while practicing your chipping.

This is good advice BUT the most important point is you must practise in between lessons. If you don't you will be wasting your money.
