Cost to play tour event? Cost to play tour event?

This question is probably directed more towards ship.......

How much would you estimate it costs to play in a PGA tour event? If you factor in travel, hotel, food, caddy expenses, buy in fee, etc.... I'm curious as to how much it would be (roughly) per week?

I think the registration fee is $100 or something like that.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the case. Ship or ntnbo or someone else had mentioned it here. A quick google search doesn't directly link to any PGA Tour site that explains it, but a couple of places mention the $100 fee.

Of course, I think the Monday qualifiers run a couple hundred bucks, plus more for pre-qualifying (I think Ship talked about it in his thread when he tried to qualify for the Byron Nelson this year).

Keep in mind, the PGA Tour isn't like a mini-tour where the entrance fees are the prize pool. The sponsorship/TV money is what fills the purses. I'm sure there's some reason they make them pay $100; my guess is that it's just a holdover from the days when that actually would've made up a decent chunk of the prize pool.

Entry is $100. Hotel should be about 100-150 a night. Rental car is free. Caddy is 1500 + % typically...can vary a ton. Airfare is $250 per leg through PGA Tour travel on zone fares...or $9,000 an hour for private jet.

I can play the Nationwide for about 1500-2000 per week, but it could be done for 1k if you tried to skimp and shared rooms and picked up a local kid as a caddy for 60 a day or something.

PGA Tour would be double that.

The 100 entry fee is just to make them go through the motions and enter. It is 15k that goes to the section I think for volunteers etc.

I have a friend on the Nation wide tour and PGA sometimes, Josh Teater. He has a guy worth a ton of money who backs him, its prettty exspensive when your not at the top. But the PGA events are very cheap entry.

No you definitely have to earn your way onto the tour via good play not just via money. It's not like the WSOP where any shmuck with money can sit down and declare himself a "pro".

I read in Golf Digest, or maybe some other golf magazine, that British Open costs on average $8000k.

A small jet might be 4k an hour to charter but a G5 would be around 10k per hour of flight time to charter or owner operate....pimpin' ain't cheap.

I played the final round at Second Stage in 2008 with Josh and saw him quite a few times in 2009 out there. Great guy, obv great player.

That's probably about right. Maybe a touch more to take the family. I think Harrison spent about 15k to take the family to the British this year.

you can get 25 hours with Marquis Jets for around $115,00+ taxes and fuel. So yea private jets are pretty expensive. I remember my dad looking into chartering one for a baseball tournament for his travel team and the price was absurd.

So say $9,000 an hour for a private jet...Players can chop that up right? Idk size of those jets, but say 4 tourning pro's wanted to fly together. Can they split it and pay $2,250 an hour or whatever?

Sure they can and do. there is a great picture of a bunch of the Euros on a charter leaving the Masters....the pic is Rory and Charl in the green jacket.
