Do all the chores that your wife normally does around the house one Saturday afternoon. When she says "What's that for?", just tell her you love her and that she's the best thing that ever happened to you.

Then drop the afterthought. "Oh, by the way, I'm going to Q school again."

If there are enough backers out there I would love to try to do this in 2011. I need to practice and start playing some NCGA events to get back into tourney shape. Also it will give more time to discuss potential payouts and things like that. It seems like a long shot to make it all work but I think I would have a good shot to make the final cut.

How much does q-school cost?

Would the backer(s) get a % of ALL future "pro" earnings? Including tournament purses, endorsements, ect?

Out of curiosity, how much money is spent for someone coming out of college to play pro golf? Obviously he'd need the family support just to cover living expenses if he's not working, but how much would be involved in terms of travel and things like that, either to Nationwide/PGA Tour tournaments on sponsor's exemptions, or mini-tours, or to Q-school? How good a college/amateur career would you have to have to lock enough sponsorship money that you wouldn't really have to worry about money while breaking in? Surely a US Amateur champ would get enough money, even in a down economy, right?

The Big Question is if your man is going to play LAGGY or is he going to NIT it up in his attempt to Qualify.

$1500 per week for expenses. There aren't 3-5 guys every year or two that get any real endorsement dollars before proving themselves.

Can someone explain the whole Q-school process?

Can any clown just register for Stage 1? How many qualifying spots are there? What's the fee?

What avg score does it take to advance?

No idea about average score, and someone who knwos better can correct me but I recall reading in Feinstein's book Tales of Q School (interesting read by the way) that if you pay the fees (I think a couple thousand?!) and at least have decent enough rounds to submit, you can get into first round of QS. They don't let any old clown register, they want at least some proof you can make your way around the course. No idea how many spots they have for each qualifier but top 25 advance to round 2 I believe.

Again I'd have to reread that book to make sure. If you're interested enough though it's a good read. Really paints a good picture of how difficult it is to play yourself onto the tour.

There used to be just 3 rounds, you pay, you play, you get through to 3rd stage and your guaranteed at least partial Nationwide status. Now, Q-school has been so flooded the PGA implemented pre-qualifying for those who do not have the credentials to get into 1st/2nd/3rd stage automatically.

Cool.

It's definitely something I'd like to try before I die. Even though I stand no chance. Hopefully a 1-ish handicap is good enough for Stage 1 (doubtful)
