Looks like Weir studied Rory's driver of today as he is 4-over through 15. Will have to shoot 9-10 under his last 21 holes to make the cut.

Bummer.

Bogey on his 15th hole and then triple on the last to miss the cut. Yikes....

great news for weir fans is that even during his 75 on friday, the drives were overall straight. He had a 4 putt double and hit an approach into a par 5 into the water back to back holes. That's now basically 5 straight rounds where the driver yips seem to be gone. I don't think it's something that is just completely fixed at one time, but I think he's showing serious progress.

I understand the courses were easy and you can hide behind your score a little bit, but looking at his drives and fairways hit as a whole, he seems to have turned a corner.

Watched this unfold and felt bad for the guy. Then again it likely saved him from banging out a +4 fourth round and the resulting 81st place finish.

You can't stop Mike Weir, you can only hope to contain him. -5 thru 11 on the North

O/U 76.5 tomorrow on the South?

Better/worse than +9 if he completes all four rounds?

Nice little 66 for Weir today! I heard he did a post round interview, I'll be watching the coverage again tonight and hope to catch it. he's always a classy guy

Shocker, goes back to a S&T'ish instructor and starts to play well.

+1 thru 14, -5 for the tournament, needs to simply avoid a Humana-esque final holes meltdown to make the cut

Not a great day, but in the clubhouse 1 inside the number. Good for him.

dropped a nice little 65 to bounce back from a poor back 9 yesterday. As a huge Weir homer, I love this. The yips are essentially gone. He's still going to have ups and downs like any other golfer and I don't know if we are going to see any really high finishes, but it's fun to follow him and know he's playing real golf instead of 15 handicapper with "best in the world" short game/recovery. Lets see if he can hang on and make another cut at Spyglass. He's 2 clear of the cut line, T39, and had the second best round of the day today and moved up 86 spots. First bogey free round in years. 10/13 fairways, 15/18 greens.

And Weir birdies the 18th to move to -3 for the week and make the cut.

The coaching from Grant Waite seems to be paying off.

To be honest, I'd say his return from the yips has been pretty quick. I'm only familiar with the chipping yips and I certainly didn't put in tour pro effort to get rid of them, but it took me a long ass time.

It's also probably near impossible to get rid of yips when you are still trying to overcome an injury.

tied for 20th close to end of 2nd round at colonial (and mike has no holes left..... how's that for confidence)

it's funny. i was at USO 2010 at pebble and weir was the friday morning session leader i think. not that long ago..... although he blew up really badly later that tourney at pebble

it's funny and obviously hindsight, but i typed in this thread that i thought mike weir would be a great pick at huge odds. then i erased it as i thought it would invite abuse..

anyway, probably won't be anywhere near lead by saturday, but his form before his 2003 masters win was terrible (i remember canada's major newspaper doing an article saying he had no chance of winning due to his recent form being poor and due to his not hitting his drives high enough for augusta's hilliness.)

anyway, looks like his days of not knowing if he'll break 75 are over.

13/14 fairways yesterday was pretty alright. Not sure what the dead turkey+1 on the easier holes was all about but he is currently sitting T27th. If he strikes it well this afternoon and shoots around par, he could potentially contend this weekend.

I'd still take a top 40 finish :/

Very impressive. I had written him off completely.

+1 ............. i'd definitely say "he's back" for whatever that will be worth at his age. but i'd definitely watch out for him at tougher majors.... not sure how much longer he'll be exempt for non-masters majors. this year might be it. EDIT: oops, mike got in this year's USO as an alternate from qualifying.
