i actually see austin connelly as #1 alternate at his sectional in vancouver, washington... i think aaron wise from oregon won it.

http://www.usopen.com/en_US/news/qua...sectional.html

other places: tony finau is a 1st alternate.............. david toms and dickie pryde are in....

when i was at USO at pebble in 2010... i was always asking "how's that oldtimer in the field?" as i would have forgotten about qualifying

i should also add that at USO there were alot of obvious players missing... they don't take that many players from money list and/or rankings AND there is a decent lag to break-through recent results.... like rickey fowler and i think maybe rory in USO 2010

Not a timely question, but I'll ask anyways.

Why does the Players Championship limit its field to 144? I understand that historically the field was limited to 144 due to its March schedule (and lack of daylight). But now with a mid-May schedule, daylight is certainly not a concern.

I would think the PGA tour would want as many players competing as possible.

Charlie Wi sighting this week! What the hell happened to his game? Looked up his record, something like 7 of 8 cuts missed on the web.com tour this season. Used to be consistent if not spectacular.

This week is a great example in why I'm surprised that alternate tours don't get more notice. Both Sr. and LPGA have majors. Although kinda lol at "majors" on these tours because they have sponsors, in the case of Sr. they're in back-to-back weeks, and they both have five "majors" now because they're like meh, that's better than four!

Anyway, the LPGA is playing at Sahalee, which is legit, and the Seniors are playing at The Philadelphia Cricket Club, also a legit course that looks amazing on TV. This week the PGA has a weak field at a completely forgettable venue and will still absolutely crush both of the other events in ratings. Yeah, best golfers in the world, I get it. But the other tours have pretty goddamned good players too.

One is women that hit the ball 200 Yards the other is a 3 round tournament of a bunch of old timers. Don't get me wrong both tours are incredibly good golf but not at the level of prime men (not to sound gay, not that there is anything wrong with that) boring venue or not. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has never watched a complete round of the LPGA or Champions tour.

Well, I never thought I'd be saying this, but I agree. I definitely enjoyed watching the women's tournament. It was an exciting finish, but more than that, these girls are fun to watch. The tour is in good hands with Ko, Henderson, and Jutarnugarn. All have great games, but all have nice smiles and charming personalities. I said to my dad while we were watching 'the ladies aren't as annoying to watch as the men, huh?' He agreed. They don't have the same pouting and histrionics after every single shot that doesn't go perfectly for them.

I went to the practice round at Oakmont today and, from my inexperienced perspective, I think it's going to be a bloodbath. The rough was simply brutal. I watched guys trying to chip on #11, and I couldn't tell where they were aiming (in practice rounds they carry discs to simulate hole positions that they place on random spots on the green to practice.) I haven't seen so many chunks by pros in my life.

In one group, a guy was 30 yards short on #1 and dropped two balls to hit some chips. The one ball stopped at his feet, but the other ball caught a little bit of a downslope and rolled all the way over the green and into deep rough on the other side. One of the stranger things I have seen.

Yeah that stuff is brutal, not really even fair to call it a chunk as that might have been the best they could hope for. As long as the weather doesn't die to zero wind and rain over night I would be amazed if +4 or better won. Even might win by 5 or 6.
