Does anyone enjoy those Jimmy Roberts puff pieces in the middle of the final round?
The broadcast team seems to want to make the show about themselves almost as much as the players. That's an exaggeration but they really do love to hear themselves talk.
We just want to see golf shots and there's no reason, especially with all the commercial breaks, that they shouldn't do better showing more shots. I don't only need to see shots from the last two groups or someone way back chipping in from the rough. Show me an 8 iron approach shot of the guy who's 8 back rather than just talking amongst yourselves, repeating the same drivel you always do.
I know protracer technology is expensive but if Sky Sports can afford to show it on most shots than so can CBS and NBC. It's like they want to keep it "traditional" because that's what golf is to them.
I like when the European tour is on and we get Thursday or Friday golf coverage on golf channel and there are just a couple of old dudes talking about whatever and showing us the shots. It is laid back and they don't seem to worry about filling in any quiet time .
The fact they don't seem to take themselves to seriously is what makes it good. Often they will just ramble about whatever.
I really think that part of the golf coverage problem in the US is that the want to cover an event with the same intensity as some of the faster US team sports, and they go over the top sometimes.
They go from random player X being the next Jason Day, and then three bogeys later...... .... we never see a shot from player x for the rest of the day. It is a continual cycle of propping players up and then dumping them.
Just relax and show us the golf shots. And yes, I like the protracer too.
