2013-14 PGA Tour thread 2013-14 PGA Tour thread

Well Scott was playing like ****. He just binked a Tigerless tourney on the weekend. There were 40 people that could have done that today.
05-25-2014 , 08:21 PM
Just got through watching the Sr. PGA (had tuned out Nantz and wasn't spoiled on the CBS broadcast). Too bad Monty just crushed, wasting Tom Watson's incredible round. I think Monty missed something like one fairway and one green, both on #16 iirc.
05-25-2014 , 10:03 PM
Is that Monty's first win in the US?

Official win I think yes. He won a shortened Accenture event way backbit it wasn't an official win from what I remember

Way Tiger was playing before the surgery he wasnt gonna be a threat. Tiger is good for ratings and not a factor on the weekends
05-25-2014 , 10:39 PM
Tiger is great for weekend ratings though - particularly during the early parts of the broadcast before the leaders have teed off.
05-25-2014 , 10:42 PM
You mean the 3 tourneys he played this year before the surgery?

Or you mean the year before when he won 5 times?
05-25-2014 , 10:56 PM
Not liking Tiger is understandable, denying his dominance is another thing...
05-25-2014 , 11:22 PM
I don't think anyone can dispute that Tiger is hands-down the best in non-majors over the past six years. Anyone arguing otherwise is a dumb. He just kills it in Orlando and Akron.
05-25-2014 , 11:37 PM
Because no good golfers play in Orlando or Akron amirite.

I don't even think Tuq watches non-major golf tournaments until about 4pm on Sunday.

He's just another casualfan who thinks he's a superfan because he met Jag Nicklaus once 30 years ago.

There is literally nobody, on either side of the tiger issue, who sounds like a rational person when debating. It's the most likely debate in sport to turn everyone into an instant moron.
05-26-2014 , 12:40 AM
If that's true then you and phb should be grateful since it lowers the rest of us to your level.
05-26-2014 , 01:05 AM
I'm pretty rational wrt Tiger, I think. Probably because I literally never watched golf until 2011 when I suddenly started watching every tournament just to see if I'd like watching golf.

So I'm not one of the biased fanboiz who grew up watching golf just b/c Tiger or whatever and while I think he's a toolbag person it's not hard to simply look at his results and compare the numbers while keeping his personal life aside. I also did not become a Tigerhater in 1997 or whatever because I had a pre-existing relationship with JackGOAT like, ahem, some others around here. I literally haven't seen either of them win a major. Though I remember hearing about the 1986 Masters a LOT when I was 7.

But you said "side" of the debate and I don't really feel like I'm picking a side. I'm just looking at the results and spewing truthbombs.
05-26-2014 , 03:15 AM
There's the 'maths' side and the 'feels' side. So yeah, one side definitely sounds more rational.

14, 17, 18, and 20 are all 'rational' numbers, so that's taken care of.
18>14 AND(if you prefer) 20>17, the 'maths' is taken care of.
The above statements 'feel' pretty good, we've got it all covered.

Pretty simple answer.

And PGA wins: 79 > 64

And winning percentage: 25% > 20%

It's not cut and dry and won't ever be (IMO) and shouldn't be best to death for another 15 years or until tiger retires.
05-26-2014 , 10:33 AM
No it is cut and dry.

In addition to the stats you just posted, see NXT's post about stroke disparity between the eras. The fields today are way more competitive than they used to be.

Yeah last was a good year for any other golfer. No Majors

I didnt realize he only played 3 events and I will throw those out as his back was bugging him

Yes I was wrong about him winning another tourney but still right on never winning another Major. How many surgeries has he had? How much better are the fields today?

I still think that prediction has validity.

The question remains if Tiger does not win another major is he still considered the GOAT?

FYP. That's way more than 3 strikes. You're OUTTA HERE.

Now's the part where you say "but 5 wins isn't a good year for Tiger because HE SAID he wants to break Jack's record."

Then we all remind you that Tiger doesn't get to decide how to rank golfers. Logic does.
05-26-2014 , 07:27 PM
Of course, we've trod this ground before. Last year a golfer on the PGA tour won more tournaments than anybody else, won more money than anyone else, was ranked number one on the official world's rankings, had the lowest scoring average, and was voted PGA Player of the Year. If you do not consider this a great year for that player, then you are an idiot.

My point is being proved as it were.

There is no thread for this but the NCAAs have been great TV this afternoon - three teams battling on the bubble and the individual title is headed to a playoff. Prairie Dunes always looks great on TV. Played many a round there on Links LS back in the day.

UCLA is making one 10+ footer after another to hang around. No small feat since the greens there are anything but flat.
05-26-2014 , 08:25 PM
Grew up 45 min west of prairie dunes. Need to go back and play some Kansas golf. Awesome courses all over, and inexpensive.
05-26-2014 , 08:35 PM
Yeah, working on a road trip around Labor Day to take me through Kansas / Nebraska / Colorado and play at least 2-3 courses in that area.

EDIT: I should add that if the trip goes according to current plan it is also going to take me through Dallas for at least a couple of days if you're around.

Man UCLA is making MILES of putts. Meanwhile some poor guy from South Carolina doubles the last and that moves SC from 6th to 9th, one shot out of match play with one player to finish.

Move this **** to the video games forum!

Had the Big 8 championships there my senior year, it kicked my ass and then some. Awesome course though.

If the temperature is below 70 or above 90 westhoff refuses to play.

That's BS, only if its above 90 and the humidity is high.

I love cool weather
