Im going to be living in hungary for the next few months, but I am also wondering how it works if I want to travel to other EU countries.

A U.S. citizen is allowed 3 months stay in an EU country, but does this count for all EU countries? or could you say, live in hungary for 3 months, then spain for 3 months, then ireland for 3 months etc?

I can't really find this on the U.S. embassies website, hopefully someone here knows

I'm pretty sure you can live in all EU countries, but let's someone else confirms that.

If you travel by train for axample, there are no borders, so it wont be a problem to go from Hungary to Germany, Spain etc

i think u can stay in Schengen area 90 days per half year:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area

UK and Ireland are EU member states outside Schengen so in theory you could bounce between British Isles and the rest of Europe every 3 months, altho i've heard you could prolly stay in some Schengen countries as long as you want, they dont care, but that could be a problem upon reentry.

also (some dudes blog on staying in EU/Schengen >3months): http://lifebyexperimentation.com/201...than-3-months/

Sinner is right. 90 days in the total Schengen area is allowed of a 180 day period.

If you want to overstay, then just never leave Schengen imo. You can fly all over between Schengen countries and never go through a passport check point, but once you leave and return you can easily receive a ban of several years and be deported. Your passport is scanned on entry and exit, so they instantly know if you have been overstaying or not. I have heard some countries are more lax on this than others, but thats not really something to rely on when you go home for Christmas.

If you want to stay long term and be legal, get a lawyer in whatever country and find some sort of visa to apply for. I am in this process now in the Czech Republic and so far its not so bad. Feel free to PM me.

ya not really looking to violate any laws

Ill look into getting an extended hungarian visa, which my new friend informs me may be possible... if not ill just peace it to croatia or the UK or south africa or something after my 3 mo is up, honestly breaking visa laws is just about the dumbest thing an expat poker player can do.
