If you do that, we might see a bar-girl at the WSOP final table next year.

She will have done the money down the local karaoke with 6 months if that happens.

actually i considered opening a poker-sweatshop.
most thais would be happy to make 2 bucks per hour.
uncertainty in legal issues shyed me away........

LOL, I know many guys in business in Thailand, most of them have trouble getting them to do simple tasks correctly, let alone something as complicated as poker. Also, have you never noticed how bad peoples maths is there? Calculators are routinely used, even to add **** like 30 + 40, good luck teaching them odds/probability
09-30-2011 , 11:03 AM
^haha i considered that too, 6 tabling .05 .10 FR LHE with a hand chart + basic strategy + rakeback >>> daily thai salary

could recruit only students, probably girls only too, smart + work ethic. they wouldn't need to learn math for LHE, just a set of routines

but you'd have to think the police fine would be huge if caught

LOL for sure you want someone else to be the 'boss', as there is no doubt the fingers are getting pointed at you when a disgruntled employee grasses you to the BIB.

my gf work works in a bank and went to the best university in bangkok, she play poker now but i gave up on teaching any mathematic approach of the game

You'd be completely ****ed if the cops found out. If you have connections I guess you could let them in on it from day 1. Not worth it. If you wanted to do it, setting it up in a Lao or Cambodian border town would probably be better.

Engineering students ftw.
09-30-2011 , 12:23 PM
Thais and business smarts go together like oil and water. Or maybe smarts alltogether.

It's just mind-boggling how badly they run and manage their **** over here. It might be the whole Mai pen rai attitude which leads to "small things" seeming unimportant to them, idk.

But still, if you're running a gas station, how do you run out of gas?? Or a Tesco, how do you not have ****ing bottled water in stock? Or Svensens. Sorry, we can't serve you ice cream cause we ran out of paper boxes to put the ****ing ice cream in (all these things happened to me).

Or how they always put like twenty of the same type of business in the same square kilometer. You'll routinely see them opening a new line of shops, only every 3rd shop on the street is going to be a pharmacy.

And don't get me started on the construction business over here.

Oh, while I'm rambling. The airport fiasco back in '08 brought the number of tourists down so bars got way fewer customers. What was the Thai's response? Raise prices of drinks, naturally.

I can just picture the photos you would see in the newspaper if you got caught.

A falang guy sat in the police station with a computer in front of him, with about 10 Thais stood around him pointing at him, and two smug BIB sat behind the desk

They're smart enough to prevent foreigners from owning much of anything in this country aside from bars, some condos, and a few other things. Many industries are protected for Thais only. And if you want 'in', you have to enter into partnership with a Thai.

That's pretty damn smart as far as I'm concerned. They get a huge cut of every dollar you make, if you are lucky to make anything.

Try buy something in tesco at a price of 520 baht, then give them 1000+20, expecting to get 500 back. They will run it throught the calculator at least 3 times, and still the error rate is pretty high....

The level of education is generally low in Thailand, as we all know, but what amazes me, is that even those with higher education can still seem totally clueless (not meant as an offense to your gf, of course).

There's nothing smart about that at all. Foreign investment is a huge benefit. They are cutting their own throats, but that's the Thai way.

was hilarious when my gf told me she needed a calculator and explained to me that she couldnt use her cellphone because she didnt have % button. The sad part is that France is starting to look the same as thailand in regard to basic maths.
