Should I study in Singapore or Hong Kong? Should I study in Singapore or Hong Kong?

Hello 2p2,

I'm planning to study abroad in Asia through my school(from the United States) in the fall semester, and basically have two options for my major ("Computing and business"): Hong Kong and Singapore.

A bit of background info:
I will be a third year undergraduate student in the fall. I'm Japanese, and the only languages I can speak are English and Japanese (and a bit of Spanish). I'm hoping to perhaps learn Cantonese while I'm there, in which case I'm guessing Singapore would have a slight advantage.

Poker's important, but not a deal breaker. It's purely recreational for me at this point, so if the pros outweigh the cons in other departments, it's not a big deal if there happen to be issues with online poker in that particular country.

I'm not a heavy partier, so the nightlife/club scene isn't too important. Lame, I know.

In any case, some thoughts would be appreciated Leaning toward Singapore at the moment, but that could change. Never been to either, so I could go either way.

Thanks for your input

Hong Kong is a hell of a lot more fun than Singapore. It's a party town full of millions of Barney Stinson financial types with a lot of disposable income and not much to spend it on except alcohol and cheap whores. There are nearly half a million more women than men living in Hong Kong, the majority of whom are under the age of 30 who are either working there as live in maids/au pairs or being kept in a mistress shack as a bit on the side by rich Chinese businessmen.

But since you aren't interested in that I'll just talk about poker...

Although gambling is officially illegal in Singapore, Online poker is fine in either place and both have excellent internet services.

One advantage of Hong Kong is that it's only a short boat ride to Macau if you want to play some live poker. Singapore doesn't have any poker rooms.

Both locations are well situated for short-term trips to cheap holiday destinations like Thailand or the Phillipines, so you can spend the weekend on a tropical Island for minimal cost any time you feel like it.

For learning Cantonese, Hong Kong has a HUGE advantage over Singapore.
I think the food and girls are significantly better in Singapore.
If you like seasons, you might prefer Hong Kong.

+1 for HK, been at both Singapore and HK a couple of times, and HK rocks every time in every aspect (except for cleanliness, lol), while Singapore was a bit boring during my 2nd time already. Obviously never lived there long term, so take my opinion for what it`s worth.
