Looking for more places to visit. I currently work in the IT field blah blah, basically if I want to travel more than once a year which I do, I need to take shorter trips (3-5 days, occasional longer trip) so I'm wondering what places are fun and worth seeing. I'm toying with the idea of Macau or Hong Kong for my next trip. I've been to Japan, Dubai, Switzerland, Germany, A few islands, Vegas, etc. So does anyone have any suggestions for short trips? Long flights don't matter to me, I can deal with that. It's worth it to me if it means getting away and experiencing a new place for a few days. Thanks for the help!

Cheaper trips would be better obviously but flights aren't cheap these days to most places in the world so it's not a big deal

Cheaper + international + 3-5 days?

I say, forget about it until your circumstances change. Presumably you're in the US.

The lack of good vacation time is one reason why I would absolutely hate the work in the US, you can't really do anything good for a decent length of time.

Plenty of people have 6 weeks+ vacation in US. It's mostly super junior and menial employees that don't get much vacation time.

Define "plenty".

Lots of teachers & educators for sure, maybe some government employees if you add up all the vacation days.

Could be wrong, but I don't think that "most" employees working for small businesses or large corporations get six weeks of paid vacation a year.

Iceland -

STL - Any airport on the east coast or Minneapolis- 4-6 hr flight from there, definitely the most unique place you'll find without flying to New Zealand, Asia, Africa, South America. Airport is super close to awesome stuff so you don't have to spend any more time than necessary traveling.

I'd suggest Iceland, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Bermuda (not cheap) etc. I don't think you want to eat up a huge chunk of your time flying.

There are also plenty of places all over the US worth checking out if you only have time for a short trip.

I enjoyed Iceland and 4-5 days is enough to see the highlights.

Amsterdam! Poker, nightlife, museums, legal weed and 50 euro quickies.

Have you talked to your manager about the possibility of a longer vacation? Depending on your workload you might be able to get a short sabbatical or a week or two off without pay. I've never run into anyone who regretted traveling too much when they were young and had disposable income...
