My wife, 10 month son, and I are going to Puerto Rico in mid-December. The tickets are one-way, we don't know how long we'll stay, 3 months, 7 years, dunno. Based on very little info, we like Isla Verde (near San Juan/part of San Juan).

If anyone has stories, tips, info that'd be great. Food, poker, beaches, rentals, anything you've got.

I promise to follow up in a month when we get there with some pics and TR.

Tu hablo espanol?

I visited PR a while back, had good luck playing 2/5NL at the Ritz.

Wasn't overly impressed w/ San Juan, spent a couple of day driving around the country, would like to go back and visit Vasquez and one other small island off the coast.

Hope you keep us updated . . . as someone who is considering moving out of the USA, I'm interested to find out how you like living in PR.

Yeah, it isn't really out of the country. We think about leaving US also. We figured this might be a good transition to Costa Rica or Argentina or something.

I had Spanish in High school, so no I don't speak Spanish.

If you don't speak spanish I wouldn't bother unless you plan on taking classes. I've been to San Juan and I thought it was disgusting.

Haven't been to Argentina but have been to CR . . . it's interesting to learn that you're using PR as a possible transitional experience to perhaps make moving to another country easier. Perhaps more English spoken in PR versus CR, but I don't know if that is true . . . probably true once you get off the gringo trail in CR.

I think I'd def. enjoy living in CR (or Mexico) more than PR, and guessing Argentina, too. Def. less expensive . . .

Everyone speaks english in PR. San Juan is not an attractive city but the rest of PR is; Old San Juan, the rainforests, the north coast etc.

The live poker scene is based around nightly small buy in rebuy tourneys. The crowd is pretty much the same and moves around to where ever the popular place is. Last time I played, it was the Ritz Carlton. They introduced live cash games within the last year or so and the rake is crazy high but it they play no fold em hold me there so a good player can probably overcome the rake.

Even though its a US dependency it doesn't feel like it is the US. But you have a lot of the infrastructure of the states, shops etc.

The nightlife is pretty good. Learn to dance salsa
