Hei,

I am coming to Istanbul for 10 days and have following questions.

Is online poker legal in Istanbul? In case it is illegal will I be able to play or are the poker sites blocked by isp-s? What is the chance of getting caught, penalty for it?

What about live poker? Any good cardrooms?

It is illegal. If you get caught , there are no criminal charges. You will be taken to the Police Station , pay a fine of aprox $40 and get released. In Turkey , gambling is considered under "Law of Mistakes" , it is not a criminal act. You will need to change the dns setting to connect to poker sites.

There are underground cardrooms. I wouldn't suggest you to enter any of them which you see randomly on streets. Ask the hotel stuff discreetly. They may suggest you a few places.

Why the hell would you want to play poker in Istanbul anyway? It is an amazing city and ridiculously big. You won't even be able to see half of it in 10 days.

Thanks for the intel. I grabbed a last minute possibility to go to Istanbul, the original plan was to grind and play WCOOP and Mini_FTOPS. So was hoping to mix the two together.

I spent two weeks in Istanbul and you can't even log into poker sites. They are all blocked by the government. It's probably better that way though; absolutely beautiful city, beautiful women, great food, and great nightlife. I ended up being glad about not being able to play.

Ah the women and the nightlife... I have been to a lot of cities but Clubs like Reina and Sortie right near sea and under the bridge , the best. If you want cheaper and alternative places Taksim and Beyoglu have like thousands of options for every music gender.

Bagdad Street is one of the most fashionable places in Istanbul alongside Bebek and Ortakoy. You will probably see the most beautiful women you ve ever seen there.

Well it seems I will focus on relaxing and checking out Istanbuls sights and nightlife then. Does anyone know some good places to eat at?

I can fit a few meals around 30-40$(without drinks) into my budget. Mostly trying to keep it under 20$ though.
