Just wondering if anyone on here has any firsthand experience playing men's league ball in South America.

I'm hoping to go someplace hot over the winter, hopefully somewhere that has baseball leagues through the winter. I'm fairly good, but I would be looking to play amateur ball, not pro or anything.

I tried googling Venezuelan mens league baseball but only their pro league shows up. I'm not quite sure how else to find out where to play.

Some criteria I'm hoping to meet
-has decent ball
-isn't overly expensive ~$1000 a month for a decent lifestyle
-no crazy stories of tourists being kidnapped

Thanks for the reply.

Is there more than one baseball league there? I would imagine the baseball would be better than in Canada. Do they have leagues that run through the winter?

You can find more info in the following forum: http://www.dr1.com/forums/dominican-baseball/

But let me tell you, you can play baseball all year around, wherever. Actually I am moving to the DR in November and will start a company focus in relocation. Perhaps I can help you.

Thanks a ton for the link.

I could definitely use some help in the process. I'm not 100% sure when I'd be going, ideally after Xmas (family would be choked if I skipped xmas).

We should keep in touch.

Do you play baseball professionally/semi? I have a couple of contacts working in MLB academies in Dominican Republic. I can give you their details if you are interested.

No, I only play amateur ball. I would only be looking to play in a normal men's league

My uncle was a sports agent who specialized in recruiting latin american players. I know he would be in the dominican a ton, venezuela, brazil I think, puerto rico obv, and also cuba I think has some baseball action - although not sure on legalities of living there for 'Mericans

I'm Canadian, so I can goto any of those countries. I assumed that Cuba would be big on pro ball, but probably a little bit too poor for people there to play recreational baseball.

So far I think the DR is looking the best. Very cheap rent, and cost of living. I'm not sure if they have leagues for older guys like myself, but if they do, I'm set.

Sorry to ask, but how old are you?

30, but I compete in a league of 21 and over. Pretty good baseball, but I assume anywhere with year round baseball will be a little better.
