Some embassy workers are having trouble renewing as well. Idk if it's a new law or just the terms/prices of visas changing as normal.

Pretty sure it a new law making it difficult. I am vietnamese-american with a 5 year visa exemption and they still told me I have to leave or have a marriage paper with my wife after my second 3 month renewal.

Since the new visa laws, impossible to extend a tourist or business visa. http://www.expat-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=436995

I also have a 5 yr visa exempt and I made a trip to the immigration office recently to inquire if there will be any difficulties when the time comes for me to renew and was told with the 5 yr visa it would be no problem.

I dont know if this is true though as they didnt really look into my situation and just responded in a automatic way. I also only renewed once so far since I been back so I could run into problems after this one as per Dons post.

Either way, Ill make an update of any relevant information for those it could concern. I also always go to the immigration office one day early before expiration just in case I have problems and need to leave the country. The last time though, they told me ahead of time that they wouldnt renew another one so its prob all for not. That was 1.5 yrs worth of renews before the visas change.

Not so touristy, many km of beaches and good drink and food options?
Russians and russian signs everywhere scares me off the idea of Nha Trang.
Russians has never done me anything wrong, but they like to stick to them self don't they...?
have you already moved to Da Nang? do you like it?
just came back to Nha Trang after our one week trip to Hue, Hoi An, Hanoi and Ha Long. we were told by few locals that Da Nang is so boring that we changed our plans and flew directly from Hue to Hanoi rather than from Da Nang. (weather in Da Nang sucked as well then)

Russians confirmed in Nha Trang, a bit less after ruble breakdown though.
locals speak worse English than people in the north but they are easy going and helpful. generally speaking I find Nha Trang a good place to live in (plenty activities around), would be cool if there are more bars and clubs in town without this ridiculously loud music

surprise people told you da nang were boring compare hanoi. Everything close super early in ha noi. Da nang only suck during storm season sept-early dec very windy and rain all the time. But the night life is so much better and very foreigner friendly. I would even say it better than nha trang to live.

Also the new law regarding foreigner is due to too many chinese illegal worker that they trying to crack down because of last year problem.

I'm still in Thailand, but considering to give up on my marriage with my thai wife, but sharks chewing the internet and visa difficulties makes me having 2nd thoughts about Vietnam.

And also a good hotel to stay for no more than $70 a night.

I'd like to be close to bars restaurants and hot girls obv.....

And fairly handy for thai consulate but not a must.

Thinking of going next tues - Saturday. Is there any1 that would fancy meeting for drinks showing me the night life?

Pham ngu lao district has a lot of cheapish decent hotels in your price range also that is where a lot of the touristy nightlife takes place. There is a place on Bui Vien St a few hundred yards down from the Boston Bar that I used to frequent can't remember the name but there is a white husky type dog always chained up in the front. They have wifi and clean rooms for less than $40/ night.

Ouch.

Hopefully acquiring new tourist Visas will be as simple as a border run over and over at least.

For your budget, even less you don't need to stay in the backpacker area. It's ok to go hang there if you want but it's noisy and an annoying place to stay.If you do want to stay there you can stay for 10 to 20 bucks a night.

For around 40 you can get decent hotels in the downtown area of district 1.

You're an 08 pro right? I also am.

Ah ok thanks. Yeah i'd rather stay in a decent hotel for maybe $40-70 so I will look at district 1.

Yeah I play a lot of O8 although I wouldn't call myself an o8 pro

Do you live in HCM?
