I think Poker Refuges charges 1400 for bank account and neteller set up so I'm trying to see if I can do it on my own first.

I haven't done this myself but I'll share my research on it:

There's different rules based on whether you live in a border town or not. If you're within 20km of the border, it seems pretty straightforward to get a Dollars account. Most banks require a deposit of about $80, your passport and a lease and/or utility bill that proves your local address. If you are away from the border then a Dollars account requires more documentation and a higher deposit.

Overall, I have to imagine that they would make it easy on you. The Mexican Peso stinks right now so banks are probably more than happy to get new Dollars accounts. I wouldn't pay Poker Refugees, I'm sure a person can do it on their own

Both Banamex and Santander have pages on their Spanish web sites that explain this. So I would start with either one of those banks.

Found a 2 bedroom 10 mins from Rosarito.

1200 a month total for the place Includes ultities. So 600 per month.

Ocean views right on the water.

I will be renting 2-3 months starting August

Man that sounds really expensive unless its a Class A building. My general impression is that living on the beach is "meh" because most people don't go in the water anyways. I've heard it's a little dirty and the Pacific is too cold for the majority of the year, right? It seems like people pay a premium for something they won't use.

I'm not sure. It has 24 hour security which is a huge plus for me.

Have you found anything

lost6, I just remember u pm me some time ago, forgot to reply, sorry!

Do you think it's better if I find the place I want to stay online or should I stay in some random hotel in Rosarito for couple of days while looking for condo live instead of on internet?

I think you should def find a place while you are there MiguelPicard. Internet prices are really inflated and its super easy to find a place when you are here. You would def regret finding a place online before you come fyi

Portugal is a similar case but that is the best there is in europe. U can surf w wetsuit, 21c or so during summer, maybe more further south in portugal but not as good surfing. The winters are colder for sure w some better waves like 1 to 3 meters instead of 0.5 to 1.5 or so meters, though up to 30 meters or so also happen. U get better details online, that is just what i remember.

Paying that much to live in mexico. One can live some further away with a 3rd to half the costs.

Does anyone have a cheap room available for the next month? This is Mark with the 17-month-old white mixed lab dog, she would be coming with me.

Can anyone comment on the bill that's expected to pass? (from this thread, with the latest post linking to this article)

Any idea when it's expected to take effect, and what it means for US players in Mexico? Are they going to have segregated player pools?

I guess you're going to need a passport to walk into Mexico now..

"Starting late Wednesday, pedestrians going to Tijuana from San Diego at the San Ysidro crossing must choose between a line for Mexicans who get waved through, and a line for foreigners who must show a passport, fill out a form and — if staying more than a week — pay 322 pesos, or roughly $20, for a six-month permit."

Hopefully the US Border Patrol will follow Mexico's lead and a make a queue that is only for US citizens.

Basically every Mexican crossing North on foot gets queued up (or had to go through background/ties-to-country checks, i.e. Sentri, etc.).

That I-94 line/queue @ San Ysidro gets brutal around the Holidays.

Decent chance I move back to Rosa (or TJ) in Jan/Feb. Last time I lived on the outskirts at Palacio Del Mar and this time would prefer something in the city. I'm an apartment-diva now so I'd like a place hopefully just as nice (if not nicer) and obviously stable internet is a top priority.

If you find me a place I love and I end up moving there, I'll buy you an Ollie's Pizza. Any recs?

You can't just "be" in Mexico, they will want to see some sign that you established yourself here. You will need to send them a copy of your utility bill, lease, etc. I don't think they accept cell phone bills. It's a pretty simple process - once I had my papers in, I had my account switched over in less than 6 hours.
