I would guess its so that they can increase the number of players, so that both players from HK, China, can come after work to participate. In a way, that is better, a bigger prize pool....

I really dislike leading questions and the inane "booking a night of hotel" is a very bad leading question, too.

Dinner, after work... there are lots of legit reasons for an 8:10PM start.

Also their events don't even all start at 8:10PM.

Personally I would not be comfortable meeting such 'CHENGPOKER' person in real life

Hey, wanted to say all the advice is greatly appreciated in this thread.

I'm planning on attempting to get a multi-entry 12mo tourist visa hopefully for the 60/90 days to grind online.

From what I've read setting up a bank account on the mainland with a passport and visa is not a problem. Is this correct?

HK looks amazing, but is double or more monthly rent than Shenzhen. If I only speak English and want to go out drinking, exploring, meeting people 2-3 days a week would it be worth the extra money to stay in HK?

Thanks

If any of you guys are in Shanghai in mid-late June hit me up.

I'm not looking at a schedule but I would guess that, on the days they run multiple events, they have to set the later starting time based on the predicted time when there will be enough free tables from the earlier event(s).

I'm also quite confident the Pokerstars tournament staff doesn't choose to start later, thus extending their working day to 16 hours, just so it might sell a couple of hotel rooms.

It depends what you want to experience.... . In general people in China do not speak English.

Very interested in M1nt. Looks cool. I hear most expat bars filled with people acting like idiots and prostitutes. Not interested unless it's an awesome venue.

Thanks for info.

Most expat bars have foreigners, which not necessarily mean they are braindead or idiots.....
Lot of them teach English, well... you do the math.....
If this is your crowd, it's up to you.

Don't want that to sound douchey or anything but I would rather experience nightlife with the local crowd. I can go to a bar or club filled with white people anytime I want.

I had the same sentiment when i first got out here. The only problem is the only decent venues are full of white people. Everyplace else is usually incredibly boring.

Though every now and then you do find that rare gem, but for me i need to travel like 1.5 hours to go to that bar.

Hey guys just wanted your opinion on what sort of damage you think a 1 bedroom apartment will be in Macau per month? I asked the guy in marketplace for his 1 bedroom fully furnished no kitchen but all utilities included is asking 8500 MOP. Seems quite expensive from what I heard from my relatives. I can get up to a 6 month visa.

Last time I stayed in the main island. Central de Rua or something like that. less than 5 min walk to GL which was amazing. Looking for a similar location. I guess I might also be open to Taipa. But from my experience GL is a great poker room compared to the Hardrock(lights are too bright).

I was thinking about coming down late September and staying in a hotel for a few days and just going around to rental agencies and checking out places.

Anyways will you recommend staying in Macau for 6 months? I do love poker but I'm not like love love poker. Going to grind the 10/25- to 25/50. and hopefully eventually move up to 50-100 seems very possible. However, I do love Macau and everything about the island. Something about the vibe and scenery there really clicks with me. The longest I've been away from home is a month. Also travelled china for 3 weeks. I do have 1 friend in Macau who runs her own business. Also have some of parents family in GZ.

any other tips or advice will be appreciated.

How is that a leading question? While I agree that some people need to get off work etc, these are all 2-day events so I dont know what kind of work they'll be returning to the next day. It's a legitimate concern for me as I don't want to spend more than 1 day in Macau.

Starting at 12 or 2pm is much different than starting after 8pm as the latter almost guarantees that the majority of the field will be booking a night of hotel.

Anyways dude I'm bringing a legitimate point as hotel costs are minimum $100 a night so if you have problems with me bringing up that... then you must have a lot of issues.

Organizers will never be able to please everyone. Seeing as you're the only one complaining, I'd guess that more are happy than not. If it's such a big concern for you, don't play tourneys and switch to a man's game...cash ;p

Like Sakispda said, you should be able to find one in that area for 3-5k. It won't be flashy most likely, but will do the job. I'm sure you'll need to sign a 6month lease though, and set up all your utilities which will add 500-1k per month.
