1 USD = 7.7 HKD so 10 HKD = 1.3 USD

10 20 hkd at starworld is an ok game. Dealers are good, some competent grinders and some clueless stations. Beatable by value betting strongly.

10 25 at venetian can be super soft. Clueless donkeys that will blow your mind on occasion, mixed in with some competent grinders. Dealers are super slow, but nice.

10 25 at Wynn is hit or miss. Sometimes stuck against only strong grinders, very table dependent and time of week dependent (weekends are better). When fish come, they usually come with deeper pockets than the other places. Dealers and floor are excellent. Best game selection in town at the wynn (most tables of 10 25 running and always a few 25 50 if you cannot find a soft 10 25)

I'm headed to Macau in a few days and after reading a bunch of threads here it seems like my best budget accommodation option is to just stay at the Grand Waldo spa, at least at first. I'll be spending most of my time either exploring the city or playing poker so I really just need a place to shower and sleep anyway.

The reviews I've seen here seem to be for a single night's stay at the spa. Has anyone here spent multiple nights there, just leaving their bag at the coat check between stays? How much of a pain is it to get at your stuff between stays and how secure is it? Do they ever fill up?

http://www.asiatravel.com/macau/olelondon/index.html is pretty cheap and won't be as much of a hassle as staying in a Spa.

I've done 4 nights at the Rio Sauna (which is the nicest of them all) and while you get free snacks and finger food, the allure of the super hot models walking around all day made me spend 250$+/night

Came to Macau last night and what an pain in the ass its been because for some reason cant withdraw money from ATMs. Somehow managed to get 3k for one ATM but no luck after that. Anyone else had problems withdrawing money or is there some kind of trick getting money? Im from finland and have Sampo banks visa. Kinda sucks that cant really go playing poker before i can withdraw more money.

Thx for the hotel tip. Already booked Grand Waldo for 3 nights but i guess ill change to Ole London hotel because its abit cheaper.

Some of the Chinese banks do not belong to the Plus/Cirrus networks. You need to find a machine which displays those logos to get your money. Sampo Bank would need to be a member obviously.

If you are not familiar with those networks a Google image search should get you what you need.

I assume you don't speak chinese? You'll find a lot of burgers AND cheese (seriously they have cheese too) when you know how to order them.

Dannykurtt has started a thread called "Ask me anything about living in China' in one of the other sub-forums. It seems he needs his answers from us.

I live in BJ.

To order a cheeseburger in a McD:
Point with your finger to the picture or cheeseburger behind the counter.
Then make a 1 with your finger to indicate the quantity you need (you can go up to 5, you won't know how to order more with hand gestures).
Pay the amount showed on the cashier.
Eat
Smile.

Don't be idiots, you're living in a new country ffs.

www.chinesepod.com and www.nciku.com is all you need.

It literally took me 10 hours of reading PDFs and listening to chinesepod to learn 100 vocab words and several ways of constructing sentences. Makes chicks and food sooooo much easier.

Well with food you can also just point, and with Chicks saying hello and giving them a nice big smile will get you most of the way there (in China anyway,) but I hear you, it never hurts to learn the language. However I'd cut people a bit more slack, your right that they should at least attempt to learn the language, and put in a good try, but your making it sound easier then it is. Manderin is one of the toughest languages for westerners to learn.

Having said that...

I mean, I'm pretty sure he still has 10 fingers, just like the rest of us (despite the fact that the Chinese use different hand motions for 6 - 10 I think they would still understand,) although learning how to count from 1 to 10 in Chinese is pretty easy, so he should at least learn to do that, if he's going to live there. Then again he has his own thread all about living in China, so I guess he's an expert, just so long as people don't ask him about ordering Cheeseburgers

No there are some. But they are underground and not legal. So I don't know what that means for how safe/on the level they are, or what you would expect to face if the police ever decided upon a raid. Not that I would be too concerned with the later ever actually occurring, but you never know.

Unfortunately I can't tell you either a name or a location, because I don't know them, but I do know that they do exist in Beijing.

ummm...why would it be boring playing with a different currency? Not sure why you would even want to play with USD if your living in China buddy?

Best way to find a game is to meet some other foreigners and start your own game or get invited to their game if they already have one going. There are obviously underground casinos throughout China, but according to this, they are only at the borders and I'd say it seems a little risky,
