I just moved to Malta and I have a couple of questions. First of all, how do I obtain a residence permit or something like that? Or is that completely unnecessary? Second, anybody here living in Marsascala? And last, where can I find a club to play tennis or table tennis?

I am moving there in Oct. as well. I would be in to try windsurfing or kite boarding. Also I recommend getting your scuba license. I lived in Malta last year for 7 months and it has some great spots.

Friend of mine has a residence permit/id card but got it years ago, only thing he used it for was to get a discount in the bus . I believe its harder now and the majority of foreign poker players living in Malta dont have it, doubt you'll need it.

The North of the island has long sandy beaches and is definitely cheaper than the North-East where most of us live. So that would be St. Paul's Bay/Bugibba/Xawra/Mellieha. Might feel a bit isolated there without a car though. If you want to be closer to things Gzira/Msida/Pieta might be options but less good for swimming and no sandy beaches. Internet shouldn't be a problem any of those places really.

Regarding Mellieha, rent is not that cheap from what I saw, looks like a pretty touristy destination because of the sand beaches.

Marascala and melliha are far away from where other grinders/tourists/expats staying. Marasacala is cheap and there are nice flats for sure but i couldnt be bothered to have a 45minute taxi ride any time i want to party or meet up with somebody. Not even to mention that taxis are definitely not cheap.
IMO everything besides sliema/st.julians and direct surroundings is not a good option unless u r a social weirdo who has no contact to teh outside world anyways. JUST MO

Im a 27 year old German nl Player nl500-1k and majors on Sundays. Looking to maybe move to Malta at the beginning of 2015. Want to have my base in Malta and travel to some EPTs and WSOP so would be in Malta around 180 days/year. Looking for a room in a Poker apartment/house. I am motivated and want to make max $ and talk poker and do a lot of sports. Also interested in startups and Stocks… So looking for a group of players who are completely trustworthy and equally skilled / motivated.

Want to be completely safe tax wise in Malta so still looking at different options. I know this has been a big topic in this thread and I am still not certain on how players making a decent amount of $ actually do it. Was thinking about opening a Bank account, shipping around 11K/ Year onto it to pay rent etc. and paying 12.5% taxes on that + have an offshore account+ use moneybookers and skrill for cash expenses. Only don’t know how to actually use the money in the offshore account then? I definitely need a lease and a bank account to basically be able to prove to German tax authorities that I actually do live in Malta.

I will be here for the Battle of Malta November 6-11 to have a look at the Island and see whether I like it. Would appreciate to meet some local players during that time so hit me up!

I live in Marsascala. It is really nice, very touristic small village. Groceries and other kinds of shops are all close by. In the middle there is a big bay, which looks really nice. For the rest, I have a 3 minute walk to the beach, which is awesome too.

I dont consider myself a social weirdo, reacting on the other reaction. I joined a sportsclub here.

Overall I would definitely recommend living.
