Hi, I'm a 23yo 100NL 6max grinder and looking to travel/live abroad for a couple of months (or longer) either later this year or in 2010. I'm from the UK so looking to go a bit further afield than just Europe - although some places I wouldn't mind.

Anyway, my first question. From people who have been a fair few places - where would you suggest would be good? I'd just be looking to chill out, play some poker and enjoy the lifestyle. Don't need anywhere too bangin but a nightlife's definiately not a downside.

My next question is expenses. How much would a 2 month stay cost? This is assuming rent on a place being shared with other people rather than hotel costs. I'm hoping poker monies would be able to cover this.

My final question... anyone wanna join me? Like I said, I'm 23, quite laid back. Not really looking to do anything special except play poker and relax but I'd be up for doing whatever there is we can find. Looking really for 2 or 3 people to share a house with who are easy to get along with.

Anyone interested, let me know. Everyone else, if you have any advice or questions for me, go ahead.

Sounds like a fun trip, I can't go on it but I just thought I'd comment that trips like this where you travel with friends, play poker, party, and just live it up in different countries really makes you realize why you're playing poker for a living. I've done this with friends and it was just as fun if not more fun than college.... should have fun with whatever you chose. We went to Vegas, Austin, and Mexico personally but next I'd love to go to Buenos Aires, Costa Rica, or some place in Latin America... DR, Colombia or something... should be a blast with the right people.

There is a thread like tihs nearly everyweek.......

My advice is not to plan on getting a house somewhere before you travel around some. Just buy a oneway ticket to Bangkok,Buenos Aires, wherever. Hell, I think AirAsia is running flights from London to Kuala Lampur for less then $400. Traveling/playing online is really is not that hard and does not require much planning, all you need is labtop basically.

Cost obv varies to where you plan to live and what you pan to do there. gl.

I disagree.. I think it can take a good bit of effort to set up depending on what the situation is. In my case, we had 4 of us all with different financial situations of what we could afford to pay so we had to find a place that met all the criteria in terms of price, quality, location, and availability... depending on how long you're planning to stay it can take a bit of research to find a place that will let you get like a 2-3 month lease. Then the other things that you might be interested in like nightlife/beaches can complicate the process even more.

Like Plateau said, take the london-KL flight, from there you can fly anywhere in Asia for about $10.

I took a laptop and 4 changes of clothes and was gone for 6 months. It's really not that hard.

Thanks for the advice so far guys. I do like the idea of the LDN-KL flight but I think I'd prefer to be a little more organised before leaving and I'd definitely prefer to do it with someone else rather than being all alone. Figured other Poker players would keep me motivated.

One of my other friends is a barman and considering joining me but I'm assuming that even if he could pick up a job he's not going to be making enough to mainitain a rent?

Also, any good websites where I can look at property to let for a while? What would the minimum amount of time available be to let for or is it all dependant?

I'm definitely thinking more South/Central America and possibly Asia, maybe I could throw that in at the end of the trip.

Ok well I've had interest from one other 2+2er and we both seem pretty keen on Argentina and perhaps Australia/New Zealand. He has some friends in Argentina at moment so will be gathering necessary information over the next couple of days. We're looking at 2010 but possibly as early as October dependant on grinding and how quickly we can actually get the ball rolling. Ideally we'd be looking for another one or two people to join us.

Obviously still not too much development but things have been narrowed down a bit. If anyone else sounds interested, either post here or drop me a PM.

September/October would be a good time for New Zealand...it's pretty cold here in Wellington right now
