At PokerAce the bong's aren't fans of smoking so it's a good place if you aren't a big fan of smoking. It's a pleasant break from the damage Sihanouk did on my lungs...

Are you safe to get taxis to/from Riverking or am I best getting a scooter?

Ty for the sim card advice PT, you've been a massive help.

Taxis/tuktuks/motos perfectly safe IME, only thing sometime some peeps will try some driveby phone/bag snatching so watch out for that (never happened to me though). Use a travel app like passapp or grab than it's usually cheaper and one more layer of protection. And dont show off your money on the street

Grab is the best option. Even if you are a smooth negotiator it works out to be almost half the price most of the time.

The tuk tuks in front of the private games are always fine because that's their area and all the players end up being regular customers. It would shock me if they ever did anything sketchy. Passapp and Grab are good options as well and probably better and cheaper. I don't use Grab too much but a Passapp ride is usually just $1 for most places. If you do take a tuk tuk keep in mind that most rides should only be $2, unless you have a lot of people or go really far. And don't ever take any ride from Naga as they'll all rip you off. Always call one of the apps.

Pretty much, you'll get a few western owned restaurants/bars open but they're sparse. Best to get stocked up on supplies and get the grind on for the three days!

Yeah it's gotten better over the years with at least some of the Western places staying open. We always struggled to provide food at the Riverking during this holiday because our kitchen would close and there would be limited options. Thank god KFC and Domino's is always open and there is also a Chinese restaurant on Monivong called Tai Tai that stays open as well. When I first arrived five years ago it was almost as if you could see tumbleweeds on the streets as it was that dead. I'll tell you though it will probably still affect the bars because I'm assuming most of the girls will be going back to their home provinces. Appreciate the ones that are still here because you know they're the true work horses.

That's true, there are quite a few holidays here a year where bars are closed for a few days that a bar owner should look at running some sort of special party night specifically on those nights and bring in some hot girls on a short term basis and become known as the bar to go to on holiday nights..you'd imagine they'd make a killing, though I doubt it would go down well with the locals, pretty disrespectful.

$180 for the 3gb RAM version. One of the best purchases I made. Huge screen and battery and everything else good for the price. It's sold here:

Thanks again, buddy.

By the way, the first day I was here, I looked at a bunch of condos in Duan Penh district; my budget was $150 to $250, and all I could find was old Khmer style, fairly large but kinda ugly and oddly shaped, and all were up disgustingly filthy, dark, long passages and stairways. Is there anything more modern in this area?

Have a look around BKK 2 & 3 and near Russian Market.. you'll be about 10-15 minutes away from all of the nightlife but you get more for your money accommodation wise... I stay at BKK 3 atm and pay $200 + bills and it's a nice apartment, I'm happy with it. If you get a moto then the distance to riverside/RK/bars etc isn't an issue but if not then tuk tuk fee's can add up over a month.

Thanks, sam. I was actually just looking at a couple of western style (not sh.ite) apartments on an expat facebook group for $250 which are really nice in BKK3. I see there some small parks/green areas not too far away which is a huge bonus for me.

Do you have a kitchen? Did your apartment come fully furnished? Has a balcony?

I was seriously considering staying in the lakeside area, in a very small, simply furnished with AC (fine for grinding), $180 room with fantastic security, as it's down a side road and thus quiet at night. However, BKK seems to offer far better value for money and higher quality.

I shall have a search around BKK2 & BKK3 tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip.

Can you recommend any shops that sell second hand/refurbished laptops/monitors? I don't think ptc does, at least it doesn't appear so from their website.

- Thanks.

Use Khmer24. It's like Craigslist and most of the ads will be from smaller computer stores. You should be able to find a good deal and you won't have to deal with haggling or dealing with a large foreigner tax.

The best option is to just get a new one from GoldOneComputer. They delivery pretty quickly and were the closest to usa prices I could find.

How can you tell it's new?

If it is actually close to the price in the usa then it's most likely used.

It's a pretty big shop with a good reputation. I just recently got a 24 inch dell gaming monitor for 145$ from there. I prefer something with a low ms time because I game, but they have some decent prices.

The used market here doesn't have much of a selection and you don't save as much as you'd expect versus new. Just for food thought as I recently looked before going to goldone.

I'm pretty sure the entire market is a used market and you're just paying a premium for someone saying that it's new

Do they offer any tournaments in Naga now ? I'm a tournament player and could take a weekend break from Thailand if there are any decent tournaments running. PP is only 1 hour away so if the casinos want to attract more poker players from Asia , a few weekly tournaments would be nice.

It's a proper store, comes brand new sealed in box.

There's not a whole lot here for tournaments. Redfox has a $20 rebuy tournament Mon, Wed and Saturday weekly while RK and Ace only have tournaments occasionally.

You have Riverking 1 that runs a $1-$3 hold'em game and a $1-$2-$4 Omaha game. They'll have a bigger game depending on who is in town. There's Poker Ace which has a daily $10-$20 hold'em game and finally the Red Fox. They have a $20 rebuy/addon tourney on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. They'll usually have a $0.25 blinds dealers choice cash game after each event.

In Sihanoukville the Oriental Pearl runs an all day/night $1-$1 game with $1-$2 and bigger going if they can manage it. A few of my old dealers were working at the Golden Sands so they have a game as well although I'm not sure of the stakes. The Koreans run a $1-$1 game at the Golden Pearl and another Korean, Charley just closed his game down at the OC but I've heard he'll start it up again at Fortuna. That game will most likely be $2-$5. The Rainbow Room also runs a nightly $2-$5 game.

2) Both Riverking 1 and Poker Ace will allow you to keep money there. I'm not sure about the ability to pay you later online. Neither Naga nor any rooms in Sihanoukville have this option. All the rooms are safe although I would advise never taking a tuk tuk or a taxi coming out of Naga. Download the Passapp app, which is like an Uber type service, and always use that.

3) Sihanoukville is a bit chaotic so I would suggest Phnom Penh over it at this point. If you do go down to the beach, the sewage has done much to ruin much of the water so you want to get as far south as possible like Otres 2 or even 3.

4) There's a bigger community of poker players here than what most would initially think.

Ace is mostly running 2/5 and 5/10 the last few days. The 10/20 will be starting again after the holiday.
