Your room in Sihanoukville had ants in it and had a communal kitchen.

Hello people interesting thread (although it does seem to be tailing off as late).
My name is Robert.
I am leaving Pattaya sunday 9th and heading to phnom penh.
I used to tour the UK playing tournament poker and cash games for fun in casinos.
I have just spent 2 years in Jakarta and desperate to start playing again.
I will be staying in the okay guest house to start with as I think that's close to the casino.
whats the action like and whats the buy in.
p.s is it still easy to get some fine smoke as I have had 2 year white turkey with that as well?

You had to use a communal fridge, yes or no?

I have not had ants in any room i have stayed in, in Thailand since 1999. Never had ants in any place i stayed in the flips either. K2 think you wanna try cleaning up your crumbs after you eat your treats cakes and snacks.

uhh yes............... how many hotels in sihanoukville do you think have a fridge in them? none that i noticed did and i checked out at least 10

and is it really worth paying 2-2.5x a night for a fridge? i freeze my water bottles every day and LOVE cold water, but im not paying $35 a night instead of $15 just for that

pooter i keep ish clean as can be (with regards to food)

throw out trash every day (and keep it in fridge until time to throw out) rinse dishes right after i use them pick up any crumbs

that is definitely not the issue

You do run bad then.

I have lived in at least 6 different condos plus a house over the course of the last 12 years and have never had ants (not to mention countless hotels i have stayed in too)

Never had ants in my place in Manila either.

That's what you said earlier.

Now you're saying the nice resorts have fridges in them and the cheap rooms didn't.

That's a significant difference if you ask me.

I think the one luckbox is staying in does.

way to conveniently not quote where i said "none that i noticed did and i looked in at least 10"

i used the gym at cambodia resort i believe its one of the 2nd tier resorts which would be in the $40ish a night range and im 95% sure there was no fridge in the rooms and the room was basically no different then where i was except had a newer tv

beach club (not beach road) was like $35 a night and again pretty sure no fridge and the room was the same

only difference between both of those is the location for them is not quite as good and you are paying 2.5x

poots i was in view talay 1 and ants were an every day thing, eventually i plugged a couple of the holes in the wall that they were coming through up and that slowed them down but they found new ways in

When you say "pretty sure" no fridge, do you mean you never actually looked and are just guessing, or that you looked inside the rooms but can't remember?

My grandad (who is pretty wealthy) is insisting he will pay for our hotel for the first week :S He really wants to pay for something... So price doesn't really matter I guess ^^ He wants to book it in advance though, so need some names of some 'nice' hotels

TY !

Also, how often do the buses go from Bangkok to PP? Anyone know the times? Or where I can look to find out more info

i mean i walked into the room and thought "wow this is exactly the same as every other hotel ive been in here i dont notice it having anything different so why is it so much"

there are a few really nice like $100 a night "resorts" only name i can think of is "sokha" but to be honest i wouldnt want to stay there because its farther from everywhere you will go

i guess its only a 10 minute motorbike ride away from the beach that has the nightlife so not a big deal, but id rather just take a short walk back to my room then hop on a motorbike

i got a flight from bangkok to PP for $65 on air asia, spending 6 less hours on a bus > having fridge in room imo

I'm looking on AirAsia now and flights for 28 June are $52 ^^

Although that is the "Promo" price, the 'Regular' one is $107, wonder how many strings are attached with that? :S

you'll probably pay $10-15 more for luggage, $3 in transaction fees and $3 to choose your seat if you desire. click no for insurance.

a lot of people complain about the "hidden" charges of air asia and similar low cost airlines but those people are just stupid.

golden sands blows hard i stayed there first time i was in sihanoukville and left after the first day. If your looking 3 star like i said serendipity beach resort brand new and pretty nice k2d its right next to all the action. If your looking 4-5 stars just stay at sokha beach club hotel 80-100USD iirc. If you dont wanna hang around all the old sexpats you should check out otres beach just go straight to sihanoukville and find a bungalow/dorm there much nicer beach and atmosphere prob more people around 20-30 years old
