Hi,

I am thinking about coming down to Jaco, Costa Rica for the WPS tournament series that runs from Nov 5-14th.

I have long been thinking about moving to Costa Rica and want to use this as an opportunity to scout it out and play some poker too.

A couple questions:

1. How are these tournaments? I did a search and found one person who said they were pretty soft. Does anybody here have any personal experience with them? Size of fields? The WPS website is well, lacking, in functionality and this worries me a bit, as a working website should be standard.

2. Accommodations. I don't really want to pay full gringo prices on lodging, and seeing how I am trying to scope out living there I think I should rent a house or something for a month. Do any 2+2'ers down there in Jaco have information about where to rent a place for a month or so?

I would appreciate any information that the wise boards of 2+2 can impart.

Thanks

Sean

i've played this series that past 3 years. each year has seen field sizes decrease (and cash game action dry up).

the first year was great w/ solid field sizes and a couple tables of 2/5 nlhe cash, one 5/10 nlhe cash running, and a juicy plo table. last year it was tough to get a 1/2 nlhe table going and zero plo. the field sizes for the lead up nlhe mtt events last year got ~40 - 50 ppl per. the main event had less than 40 ppl if i remember correctly.

each trip i rented one of these bungalows w/ 2 other ppl:

be sure to visit manuel antonio national park and to eat at tsunami sushi.

Oh wow, that is a lot less action then I thought would be there. Kinda a bummer, I still may go there anyway but now I have to ponder.

Smaller fields = less prize pool but then again less people to get through, and I'm used to playing fields from 40-180 regularly.

Last year with the decreased field size would you have classified the field as soft or is it getting sharkier as some of the fish can't afford to come down?

Thanks for the information, I greatly appreciate it.

yeah, forgot to mention field strength. relatively soft overall. there were 3 guys there from iceland last year who dominated the series. Leonor Margets (last female standing during Cada's wsop run) was in the main event as was Lacey Jones.

the crappy part was the lack of cash games b/c you could just kill the local ticos and ticas who have no clue.

edit to say: i also think the star's lapt / costa rica event hurt this event's turnout last year.

I'm not a huge cash came player so it isn't a real big loss for me even though I would of course like to get into some soft cash down there. One tourney a day, and then chill the f out is fine with me.

Looked at the LAPT site, it appears this year there is no event in CR in November so hopefully the numbers will be a little better.

Thanks for the info.

I have some good pictures from the cash games at the last Poker Cruise
Yes, thank you I added you on Facebook. I do see now that the website is more updated and I had an email conversation with Alberto??? the manager down there at Jaco via email. Took him a while to respond but I just chalk that up to tico time.

Either way I'll be there providing I get all the arrangements together in time. I have other reasons for coming to Costa Rica, am gonna check out the rest of the west coast after the series ends.

Are there going to be single table satties running in addition to the 275 sats to the ME???

Thanks
