French Question French Question

I want to spend a month in November doing the following, in order of priority;

1 - studying french
2 - playing pick up soccer
3- cheap
3 - warm climate
4 - gym for lifting weights/track

I visited Paris and loved it but I think since my priority is learning French, probably in a language school, Paris is bad cause most of the time people will know English and just talk to me in English and I want more immersion. My original thought was in the south of France, but there are a handful of French speaking countries maybe I'm better off somewhere else, especially cause I think it will be getting chilly and thus, less soccer. Help please! thanks

Yup, fighting off people who want to speak english to you can be a problem in Paris. If you are indeed to learn the language, you are going to have to be very disciplined about the peopl you hang out with and speaking french constantly instead of choosing the easy way out. I would actually just recommend saying you are norwegian or something.

If I were in your position, I would consider other cities in France, if only for the living expenses. I love Paris, but pints of beer are around 7-8$ most places you go and rent is atrocious.

I spent 2 years in Strasbourg which is a cute city near germany, still large but everyone is on bikes or walking around lots of stuff to do, and everything is half price compared to paris. It's really easy to find flat sharing situations there.

But there are many other options of course.

Lyon is quite nice and has the best football team in the country (at least it did for 8 years straight until last year)

Strasbourg is not the best for warm climate I guess. Try Montpellier, huge student city, not far from Spain, amazing place I've heard.

Or toulouse.
