Forced to leave the country to extend my stay...guess I'm going to Macau? Forced to leave the country to extend my stay...guess I'm going to Macau?

Went to get my visa renewed at the Thai consulate and was told I need to leave the country and reenter...had to pay 75$ for a 7 day extension

Wasn't planning on going anywhere..was just going to take a bus to Myanmar and come back in...but figured I'd make the most of it...don't have a hotel booked or anything...

Need advice, anyone? I don't need to do any travel prep in terms of visas being a US citizen, right? Google tells me I don't, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

You definitely don't. Like stated above you can go there for visa runs but you do not have access to the whole country. I don't know how it is in the South but up in the North near Chiang Rai I believe you get a 7 day visa but are stuck in that area. To truly visit Burma you have to fly into the country. I heard they were going to make it so you can get a visa on arrival when landing in Yangon but I do not know the current status.

OP, most people would probably just take a bus to Cambodia and visit Angkor Wat. You can go to Laos, fly to Vietnam, China, HK/Macau, head down to Malaysia or Singapore. If willing to fly ou have all of Asia at your fingertips. You didn't really give any information to offer advice on where to go
