I have 10K miles (not many, I know) that they expire in 10 days. I'm trying to redeem a free 2 day car rental certificate, but you need to be an elite member.

Does anyone know if I'm able to transfer these to someone with Elite status, and them have the certificate put in my name and sent to me? Are you an elite member that would help me out?

Thanks

You have to pay($0.15/m + 35$) out the ass to transfer miles, so you are probably SOL. If you need to burn them, look at the subscriptions and such, probably the only easy way to use 10k miles in no time at all.

why don't you just do something to add more miles to your account? then the miles won't expire for another 18 months.

Agreed. OP your options are to buy 1,000 miles directly from United (a bit steep at $67.25, but it will keep your account active and your miles will not expire) or earn a partner credit. Your cheapest option may be subscribing to a newspaper in your area. Check United's site.

Note: if your miles expire you can reinstate them within 12 months under the following conditions: $0.0125 per mile (includes 7.5% Federal Excise Tax) plus a $25 processing fee so for you $150 plus tax.

Thanks for the help. I rarely fly on United or their partner airlines, so I don't need to buy miles or anything just to keep the account in tact.
