Not American. Even if you save 1 or 2% or w/e, I find it hard to believe that the hassle of taking a large sum of money with you everywhere you go, having to find a place to keep it, etc, is worth the hassle. To each his own I guess, but my Swedish friends are using ATMs at 20K a pop and it seems to be working for them.

I would never stay anywhere without a room safe so no deal deal carrying the cash tbh.

You know, it is super easy to open those hotel safes, right?

A safe is just minimally safer than no safe. If there are thieving staff members in the hotel, they can figure out access to safes also unless the hotel runs a really tight ship which I wouldn't count on in Thailand.

Personally, I prefer using Pacsafe bag. If staff member skims $300 from $3000 stash in my hotel safe, it will be impossible to verify and get any resolution. With the Pacsafe bag, they literally have to bring wire cutters with them and create clear and verifiable damage. At the very least, it requires them to think about a new strategy, or look for easier, more standard, targets.

+1 for superrich. I use it every time no matter what currency I'm exchanging. Live updates (I think hourly) on their website too:

I was turned down @ HK because I had multiple overstays, even though they were a few days each. I'd forget about getting a visa there

afaik the swedes get the same ridiculous fees as the finns do. i assume your friends havent checked the rate they are getting. i would be really surprised if they get money from the ATM for less than 4% difference to the xe.com rate

Nothing, please continue to carry around a sack of cash wherever you go, it's clearly the best option.

Kamala is very poor for surfing all year round, unfortunately.
As a family destination Kamala is very popular, but it doesnt have anything specific to offer small children.

Where are you from? As far as I can tell it's basically exactly the same in every country. A Big Mac is a Big Mac. Also HK McDonalds has some cool items.

Flying in to phuket around 10pm tomorrow. Just need a place to crash that's clean for a night, then catching a boat to Railay. Anyone know a decent hotel/guesthouse? I'm not sure if Agoda will work since I'll be checking in pretty late.

why wouldnt agoda work?

where is your boat leaving from? there are several piers and the distances are fairly big here so you might want to look for a place near the pier
