If you are approved the day you come back is when you pick up your passport w/ Visa - that is how it works everywhere.

Yeah that is what I expected but I just wanted a confirmation from him, just surprised how every single person working there seemed to be a douche, hope Thailand itself will be better.
And I thought he would ask for my travel itinerary which he didn't. But if I get my tourist visa now and I'll arrive at the airport in sydney and my return date isn't for another 5 months will that cause me problems? Do I need to book a cheap air asia flight out of the country within 2 months or is this not necessary? I'd rather not book something in advance now since I'm not sure where and when I will leave.
And I'm kind of screwed here without an i.d. now, getting into bars and stuff like that, made a copy of my passport but don't know if that will suffice.

Re douches: immigration in general are dicks. Think it is part of the job description worldwide. Thai people generally are the exact opposite.

Re itinerary: you could easily explain this (should they ask, which I doubt they will) by saying you plan to visit Cambodia, Laos etc by bus and return to BKK for your flight home.

I nearly always arrive in Thailand on a one-way ticket and they don't care.

Yeah I guess so, it's not a one way ticket though, but a return ticket (not to sydney, but to my hometown Amsterdam) 5 months later.

Just a bit afraid that they'll prohibit me from entering the plane at sydney airport since that flight was pretty expensive (8xx)

I flew first class from London to BKK and they freaking didn't give me my boarding card at Singapore Airlines, because I did not have a visa and did not have a ticket out of Thailand. When you have a TR you don't need a ticket out. But even if for some reason they ask you to, log on AirAsia.com and book a 1500Baht flight anywhere. I did it 1.5 hours before my flight took off and then they printed my boarding card.

Thanks, just what I wanted to know. I was planning on doing the same thing if they complain at checkin. I guess I'll just arrive at the airport early in case I still need to book an air asia ticket.

I've been looking at hotels in BKK for the first week and came up with these reasonably priced ones:
prince palace hotel $46
ramada D MA $58
Adelphi Grande Bangkok $75
twin towers $38
shanghai mansion $56

Leaning towards the last one now, any thoughts? Especially when it comes to location no idea what is a good place to stay at in BKK

Hi Guys,

My girlfriend and I are going to be traveling to Thailand and staying for up to 3 months around April - July this year. I would like to rent a house somewhere near the beach and not to far from a major center. We visited a few years back and spent time in Koh Samui and surrounding areas and loved it but might like to stay somewhere new.

Can anyone provide some help on how to find places to rent by the month that fit my requirements? It will need to have stable internet obviously but other than that I'm open to suggestions. Potentially looking to share accommodation with some other 2p2ers if anyone is interested?

Cheers

best months to visit are december-march. not much rain(usually doesnt rain at all in january-march) and not too hot or humid yet

try and come during songkran (its in april i think)

yea if you are planning a trip for the near future i would probably come near songkran (so include like 10-15th of april to your trip)

weather wise it is the most humid/hot time of the year so as long as you can stand that change (if it is a change for you) then it is np

Yeah, these kind of issues with authority figures usually go like this

Thai "You're supposed to have a round-trip ticket / __________ "
Me " oh sorry"
Thai "ok kap"

Just a visa from Muay Thai school. Visa is issued free from them aslong as you pay a deposit (I'll be doing MT there anyway with them) then the visa itself costs £100 or so from local embassy.

If it is really becomes a big problem for you - you never know - you can always buy a cheap Air Asia ticket online to somewhere cheap for <$50 and show them that you are leaving Thailand and flying out to Malaysia on X date.

This assumes you have enough time at the airport, and access to Internet and printer.

But this is a lot like the 'where are you staying' visa question...

Just for interest...Maybe some people can say with what amount of Bankroll/Money they came to Thailand.
More interesting would it to know from the people who planed to stay there a long time.

If nobody wanna say it, no problem too

Any idea where to get an new battery installed for an Ipod touch 2nd gen, Does not hold a charge for more than 24hrs anymore and I will be In Bangkok for a month in about six weeks so may as well get it done there. I don't want to send it to Apple as it is out of warranty and costs nearly as much as buying a new one. Or should I just go to Panthip and look around?
