thats why better just have a visa or a return ticket out and you wont have a problem. there have been few posts even in this thread where people have had to go book a ticket out of thailand when they were trying to board the plane.

also check that your passport is valid for 6 months AFTER you EXIT thailand

a year ago when i was flying to bangkok from helsinki the finnair crew took aside some chinaman because his passport was about to expire. dont know if he was able to board the plane eventually or not

can't you just make up a confirmation number on Laos airlines, or airasia, to claim you have an exit out of thailand?

if you're concerned, bring your laptop, check in early, and if they give you ****, get on airasia.com and book yourself a flight to KL in 30 days. in theory, that should work, anyhow. i've never run into this problem, so i'm just speculating.

if you want a tourist visa you will need to leave the country and go to a thai embassy/consulate somewhere (laos being a good near choice that many ppl use). you can get a double entry tourist visa from there which is good for almost 6 months (60 day stamp upon arrival + 30 day extension from immigration inside thailand - leave the country and come back before the visa expires and you get another 60+30 days)
thanks. do i ask for the +30 when i'm going through immigration at the airport, or do i have to go somewhere in bangkok? and you're saying that if i leave anywhere and come back within that 90 day timeframe, i get a bonus 90 days? is this something that can be done in hong kong?

A friend of mine suggested a few of us go to Phuket for New Year's. fwiw we're all 25/26, generally like bars but not clubs, chilling out eating and drinking by the beach, admiring hot ladies, playing some golf, tennis etc

Would it be a good place to spend New Year's, or is there anywhere else in Thailand that would be better?

We'd be going for around 10-14 days, though I'd like to stay for another 2 weeks or so (winter in Jan in UK which is pretty bad weather and I've never been to Thailand before).

So I was thinking of renting a villa for 4 weeks or so. The last two weeks I'd spend by myself a fast internet connection is a must, other than that I'd just like to chill out somewhere near a beach where I could just work on the internet part of the day and read/relax by the beach for the other part.

Any recommendations/advice much appreciated!

Probably not the place to ask, but anyone know where the NGO crowd hangs out in BKK? Or any major city over there?

the +30 days (to extend tourist visa) you will have to go to a immigration office(not at airport). there are several around thailand and obviously bangkok has one too.

the example i gave was to go to laos and get a double entry tourist visa. you will have the chance to enter to thailand twice and both entries have to be used within 3 months of applying. i guess you could call it bonus 90 days but it is just one visa that can be used twice

every time you enter thailand with a tourist visa you will get 60 days at the border and you can extend that for 30 more days inside thailand at a immigration office

i dont know if hong kong gives double entries but you should get atleast a single entry from there. if you are there just contact the embassy and ask

you can(and should) read more about visas from the thailand sticky here http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/92...-guide-508855/

im going to thailand in a week for a while.. I have a very noobish question: Can you stay as long as you like in Thailand if you enter and re enter and just continue this cycle, or is there a certain number you can do this sort of thing?

theoretically it can stop, but if you don't really screw up, the worst i've seen is that you might have to change up which embassies you go to for your visas.

Has anyone here in Thailand brought their computer and/or monitor on the plane with them? Did you have to deal with customs/immigration about it?

I know shipping will cost a ton and is not worth it for me. But if I can bring them with me on the plane for extra baggage fee or soemthing I will. Otherwise I will just go to Pantip and buy new stuff.

I have on good authority from Thai friends this is why. It is illegal.

You need to open a hotel room in her name, and one in your name, then go in by yourselves, and later join at the same room together.

I've taken my 27" iMac (stuffed in suitcase w/ clothes) all sorts of places with no issues (USA, Europe, Asia etc). Have also taken a standard tower a few places - no issues there either.

You'll have to pay a 500 THB/day overstay fine, but that's it. You can overstay indefinitely w/ a max fine of 20k THB. Though don't get picked up by any police before you make it to the airport, or you could have a big problem.

Dentistry in general is very cheap and high quality in Thailand, if you go to the good places. I've gotten cavities filled for 2k THB etc.

I always go to the place at the Thong Lor BTS station, Avantis or something like that. Very high quality and super cheap.
