Arriving in bkk tomorrow,

Looking to stay for 2 months in serviced apartment / monthly rate hotel.

I want to hear people's experiences/reviews from a poker degen's perspective
eg 'I stayed at X for 1 month and it cost Y and i thought Z'. particularly re: how good is the internet

I understand this is a pretty boring topic so $50 on stars to best response by Saturday

This unit is in a brand new condo tower called emporio place on sukhumvit 24. I doubt really hard you can negociate it much as its already a good price. Some owners in that condo ask 40k for a 48 sqm unit... Its one of the best condo in bangkok a the moment imo, i looked at that place for myself before deciding to take one on thong lor.

You can find more units in that project here, some directly by the owners but a lot of agency also advertise there:
http://prakard.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=420

In a general rule of thumb, you can almost always take off about 10 % of the asking price, sometimes more especially in the more expensive places like 100k baht and more per month.

any of you guys can vouch for a good thai massage place? Staying Sukhumvit but willing to take Skytrain/MRT to get there.

And this is for a legit thai massage only!

And this is for a legit thai massage only! I prefer the whores in Shark to the whores in soapies.
I've had great massages at wat pho - 3x all great - really strong women although it is pricier than avg/ khao sarn. The atmosphere is not like a spa - just a bunch of beds packed in but the massage is worth it.

Other than that I've had a huge variety from great to **** at random spots.

I go to a regular one at Phra Kanong it's a 5 minute walk from the BTS on the right side of the street walking towards On Nut. Walk past Hope Land and the police box and it's there on the right side right next to a small thai karaoke place and another massage place. The first massage shop is the one I vouch for, 160 bath thai massage. Best I legit thai massage I've had in thailand.

I think as a service to the growing number of ppl who want to live in Thailand and grind, we should put more effort into finding out about the universities that will give this visa, and the amount of hours needed to attend to keep it.

As you can see by Lessu's post and the hundreds of questions about visas in this thread, it's probably the single most important thing people need to know.

Since they changed the rules and you can't just do 1500 baht visa runs indefinitely any more, this sort of thing needs to be fleshed out for people who want to stay in Thailand long-term.
You can't do visa runs indefinitely anymore? Last thing I read said they removed the limitation on stay in the country so long as you continued to renew your visa/passport. Was this a recent change or did I simply read incorrectly?

Well you can still do them indefinitely, but the standard border run only gets you an extra 14 days now, so it's just not worth it any more.

You can renew your visa indefinitely, but to do so you will have to fly to a Thai consulate somewhere a fair distance from the Thai border, because the ones close to borders (like Penang) aren't allowed to give out 3 month or longer visas any more.

What this basically means is that staying in Thailand indefinitely got a lot more expensive over the last year, and things like the education visa became a lot more attractive as a result.

Health Land on Ekkamai, before soi 5 on the right side of the street if heading from suk. Its a really big place and popular, but pretty good prices for the quality imo.

thanks for all the feedback guys, appreciate it. It appears the price of a thai massage is ~3-4x higher in Singapore than in BKK so I'll have to get at least 2 in.

I like sukhumvit soi 18 for massage, the old japanese style place with the koi pond walkway. There are a ton of massage places that are standard "Hallo come in" with all girls in same colored outfits, but keep moving past them and its on the left if you are coming in off sukhumvit. Really legit and relaxing and have good standard prices and staff is friendly. I think its like a japanese style type place, I like the oldschool feel to it.

I just came from phuket and my opinion on it is to stay there from December to May, and then stay in BKK every other month. High season there is def the nuts, but I am not a fan of low season there and I basically got really sick of the rain and bad surf at the beach. I have heard that aug and sept are the worst months for rain in thailand and also oct and nov are pretty bad. I would wait until december and then just live it up there, its really awesome in phuket when its nice weather.

Okay so I have a double entry visa from Laos and I've extended it. To get the second entry I just need to cross the border and come back yes? Anyone bus it in a day to Cambodia? Looks like a horrible prospect. Do I have to return on the date given or the day before? 60 days will start the day I arrive back.

Probably fly to Cambodia/check out PP and Ankor for few days and bus back through the country. Just how horrible is that bus ride to Bangkok?

you can leave and come back anytime but make sure you are back no later than one day _before_ the "enter before" date on the visa sticker.

if the date is 15th july and you try to enter thailand with the visa on 15th it will be expired already.

remember to also extend the 2nd entry so you will get the total 90 days out of the 2nd entry

happy travelling

sorry for the derail. i just wanted to play tunes, man!
My comparison assumed you know nothing about DJ-ing. Which you admittedly don't.

DJ-ing is a skill, not unlike playing a musical instrument, so it takes study and practice to become good at it. "Knowing" music simply isn't enough to be a DJ.

Get some equipment and work at it for a while on your own or at friend's parties. If you become good, then apply for gigs, starting out at smaller spots and working your way up.
