No recommendations yet for som tum yet? Spicy papaya salad. Amazing food.

There's Thai style (som tum thai) which I'd recommend or with preserved crab, some tum boo. I think boo is pretty much terrible but my gf likes it. It tastes too sweet to me and I'm not fond of having to dig out small pieces of crab shell from my food.

Just go tell the shop you rented it from, they have a spare set and then go copy it outside of a 7/11 or somewhere

I hated som tam the first time I tried it but now I love it. My recommendations which haven't been listed yet would be tom yum (obv), gai pad pet ma muang (chicken with cashew nuts), crab curry, and fried fish with mango salad.

have any of you stumbled on a place to get protein powder for less than absurd prices? i have looked around thai visa and the web and it looks like everyone eventually settles and just buys it at these high prices. its the only thing that really lifetilts me here.

I am by NO MEANS an expert on BKK. You should probably find an area/district that you like and go from there. Sukhumvit seems ideal for most. I live in Sathorn and can be kind of a pain to get to a lot of the places but it suits me fine. Also let us know how long you will be here. Some places (serviced apartments) are more ideal for less than 3 months i would guess and then real apartments/condos will rent out on longer terms. I stay in sathorn saint view apartments right now and have a nice studio with bathtub, fridge, microwave, flat screen for 10k but it is a "red shirt special" kind of deal - think this room goes for about 13000 normally.

It really depends on area and length of stay so give more details and im sure some people will help with suggestions.

Lata,
Steve

Seems to be a problem everywhere in Thailand. Some dude approached me in the gym the other day and asked me if i wanted to buy some American protein powder. He talked about how pure it was and we negotiated price/kg, the whole thing felt like a big drug deal lol. If you find anything decent let us know.

I would probably talk to your 3 friends and try narrow down where you would like to live, then ask again with more of a specific question. It's hard for people to help if we don't even know what part of Thailand. Never mind what part of Phuket, BKK or Chiang Mai. They are all very big

I could link you a bunch of nice houses in Chiang Mai for that price though, you can also check out this website:

theres a gnc in all the central malls, but yea pretty expensive, but your not gonna get us prices here or even europe prolly since its all imported(afaik) cheapest prices ive heard was what mmerli got from his gym in phuket,

in bkk we order from http://www.thaibodybuilding.net/ wich is quite abit cheaper than gnc, and they deliver next day(site is in thai but you can call the guy and he speaks perfect english)

Let's say I would like to go in Bangkok downtown. What do you suggest for a 4bedroom (Around 40 000 to 70 000 bahts) per month's ^^

Thanks you very much for advice

In bangkok downtown you will have something very crappy/old for that price, like a 15 years old badly furnished place. For example in nusasiri condo wich is a good but not great building just next to ekkamai i used to pay 80k for a 3 bedroom.

If you are ready to go in the suburbs i guess you can find a house for that price.

Just a quick link, this is in a good location and a good deal for the size i guess :
http://www.housecondobangkok.com/ind...-condo&id=2017

but as you can see, its an old building with not very good furniture, and dont seem to have a pool.

nah you can def find something for 70k ish that looks decent, i found these after a quick search on just one agency, but you wont get awesome location, new furniture and lots of sqm for that price.

ok, so as long as i've been here, the common wisdom of the thread was to avoid TOT, and use TTT. Khun Lee decided to try out the new fiberoptic service from TOT here at the house. he bought a load balancer, that switches from 1 ISP to the other as soon as it cuts out. (i don't know **** about load balancers, but i unplugged TOT and TTT kicked right in)

anyway, i bring this up b/c it gave me the ability to speedtest both back to back. TOT's new fiberoptic package crushed, although i'm pretty sure that this is a savage underrepresentation of TTT's usual service. I tried to IM Lessu to see what he's getting, but he just ignored me.

it's not the cheapest. this fiberoptic package is something like 8k/mo. not too much for a household full of pokerplayers, though, if it really makes the connection better.

i was grinding

2 things:

1) speeds to domestic servers dont matter that much when grinding

2) if the service breaks it is no good even how fast it is

try to speedtest to some international servers and also ping some european/american servers to find out how much (if any) packet loss you get with both

if it is reliable and you can have those load balancers (if they work well with poker sites) and you get good speeds abroad i am sure it is better than the std 3bb package we got though i wouldnt be spending 8k/mo for one by myself. 3bb/cdma works just well atleast for me atm

let us know when you do some additional testing

just get an assistant who can cook imo

if you want a actual trained chef, i might know of one(friend of my assistant), will get back to you.
