That's not my friend's place dude. I do in fact have many friends in Ko Samui but the place I usually recommend is owned by Chao Samui (the Kingmaico family I believe) and has nothing to do with me.

I usually recommend it purely because it's the only hotel I have seen in Samui that has grindable internet. There are plenty of internet cafes and private residences that have grindable internet, but the one I recommend is the only short stay place I know of that has anything other than TOT wireless which is terrible.

If you are going to be a useless idiot in this thread, the least you could do is not actively try to undo the work that some of us are doing in an attempt to actually help the 2+2 community. If people have had experience staying at Aumpai and had problems with the internet there, tell them to post their TRs, otherwise zip it.

these pics are more than a year old, from when i first moved in. since that time, the owner has added a 50" plasma screen TV (currently located on the double floor) and put aircon in the busto room so there is a viable 5th bedroom (we previously used it as a guest room, but poor ventilation/no a/c made it subpar unless you're used to the climate)
This place is the stone cold nuts. Absolutely most ridiculous house ever for the price. WHY ARE PEOPLE NOT MOVING TO PHUKET TO LIVE HERE?!?

I quit my job end of this month, would be making my way to Thailand this winter - someone please move some people into here so I can book some time. Don't lose this house.

it's not possible to go anywhere by train from phuket. you have to take a bus to a train station.

Hi! I'm looking for an apartment, in BKK, starting July 1. The cheaper the better. Planning on just going and walking around but if anyone knows of anything it would be nice to hear.

we were offered 75k/month plus utils for a 1 year lease, but we negotiated 60k/month may-oct 90k/month 90k/mo nov-apr with the option to bail before high season, last year.

i assume he'll want something similar, although you can certainly try to negotiate. he'll ask for a pretty big sum up front as deposit, but unlike most landlords, there's not really a risk he'll take it from you. he'll use your deposit to pay your utilities and bills, so it'll be mostly used up by the time the lease ends.

So I've been meaning to ask you guys this, can we talk about what Thai foods we think are arroi makk makk (super delicious). Really want to branch out but don’t know where to start, (picture menus help, but don’t always have that luxury).

Also if you know how to say it in Thai that helps a bunch cuz most noodle shop chefs here score between a 0-0.5 in the English dept. Also I hear food is different in other parts of the country, so kind of cool to hear what’s popular/standard in CM,BKK or whatever.

So far here are the bread and the butter for me.

-Cow Pat = Fried Rice, chicken/pork/seafood, gets the job done
-Pad Thai = nuff said
-Kai diao = Eggs, in kind of an omelette type thing, not too much added to it, but a good side.
-Pad see-yuu = Golden noodles fried up with veggies and meat options

Then I've branched out a bit to these three that I really like

-Glass Noodle Salad (dunno in Thai) = spicy, lots of flavor, probably not going to fill you up by itself
-Lop moo - spicy pork, diced up with chilis and cilantro and stuff, 6 or 7/10 on the spicy scale but more of a like lemony spicy instead of just fireness. Throw it in with some sticky rice. Lop gai-en is same deal with chicken.
-Thai chicken wings (no idea in thai), thai dude we ate with ordered them at thai place, (so not pizza company/KFC stuff, though that's good too, but these are better)

That's all I got right now.

pad ka pao w/ fried egg (kai dao) and panang curry are my faves

pad ka pao is finely chopped meat cooked with basil leaves. pretty sure every thai restaraunt makes this. panang is a red curry w coconut milk. delicious but harder to find as I don't think many of the more busto kitchens have curry paste prepped

Lad Na Mu, as Poker Spiv suggests, is a very black peppery soup.

on the same vein as Larb (you spelled it Lop) is Nuah (beef) Nam Tuk (water fall) it's a limey cilantroey beef dish. when i first got here i was really big on Larb, but over the course of my stay this dish has slowly become my favorite Isaan dish.

Kai Jeow Tsigh is a stuffed omellette, i really dig it. I also really like Kai Jeow Naam, which is an omellette made with a raw Isaan pork and garlic sausage

if you live on the coast, my overall favorite dish is Yam Pu Ma... ask for it fresh. it's really spicy raw crab salad. you've probably never had anything like it before. I would also never eat this in bangkok, or any non coastal city, unless i really trusted the restaurant. (which basically means never)

the following dishes are usually not available at full menu places, but rather specialty carts, that focus on them:

Kow Ka Mu is a slow cooked stewed soy pork dish over rice.

you'll see a giant bowl of brown liquid with stewing pork shoulders inside or on a rack above it.

the following three dishes are usually all made by the same carts/cooks:

Kow Mon Gai

steamed chicken over rice cooked in chicken broth, served with a cup of broth to drink or pour over the rice.

Kow Mu Daeng

sliced pork with a red crust that signifies a sweet taste, served over rice. sometimes it's the same rice as above. also comes with broth sometimes.

Kow Mu Glob

Crispy fried pork (often fatty) over rice, same as above sometimes.

all are delicious.

finally, people tend to not eat enough vegetables out here. I really like Pad Pak Rammit (aka Pad Pak Nam Mon Hoy) fried vegetables in oyster sauce. be careful. order Pad Pak Nam Hoy and you're asking for vegetables in pussy juice.
