I am going to be in Bangkok for 3 nights, 14th-17th May 2011!!!

Any reccomendations on hotels to stay for <$100/night please? Will be two 21 year olds, will want to party one night, sight see and shop I think.

Also, what is the name of the best gym in Phuket? Or one with a squat rack at least? I seem to remember one being posted in the thread which I thought I had bookmarked, but apparently not!

And if anyone knows roughly what price 2 months in KataBeachStudios would be from mid Feb - mid May that would be awesome please?!

Chalong gym is the best gym in the south part of phuket but Don's gym in Kata is also good and has a proper squat rack

Don's gym doesn't have a squat rack. It does however have a power cage.

I would start by reading couple of thousand last posts from both thailand threads and before that reading the sticky

will answer your questions and so much more. trust me it is worth doing especially since you have couple of months before you are coming

Patong beach has the most action but if you stay for longer than 2-3 weeks you get really tired of it. It doesn't have a very nice beach either.

Kata beach is a lot nicer, is only 20 mins from patong by scooter and is more centrally located, (patong to the north, Chalong to the east, rawai to the south with two of the best late night clubs). Most 2p2ers live in the area around kata.

Most places are gonna be fine though as long as you're willing to scooter around the island. There is a small contingent of danish 2p2ers in kamala but they keep to themselves and kamala is really far away from everything except patong.

Whatever you do, don't stay in Surin. It's really far away from everything else and caters mostly to rich old tourists.

Your best strategy by far is to get a hotel for a week and drive around looking for "for rent" signs. That way you don't have to pay the premiums that online companies charge and you get to see the place before moving in.

Depends on where you're from and where you live. Most of the time it's a piece of cake. Find your local embassy/consulate and apply for a double (or more if you can) entry tourist visa.

• Get a visa before coming to Thailand
• Get your shots. Hep A/B, typhus, a few others I forget (ask your doc). You don't need malaria shots for Phuket or any other populated area in Thailand.
• Be advised that living here isn't quite as cheap as most people seem to think. Most end up spending more than they thought they would. You can live for cheap though if you try.
• Bring a supply of condoms. Local varieties have a disturbing rate of breakage. Use a condom every time you bang a thai girl (unless she's your exclusive gf and you've both been tested for everything). Std risk is a lot higher here than in the west.
