Hello people

Just wondering if any of you guys in Thailand have any useful links or info on how to look for accomodation.

Or is there another way to organise it other than the internet?

Cheers

couple of questions.

what is the best way to minimize the number of visa runs i need to make? or at least what are my options for not having to do 1 visa run every month or so.

also, how do you guys get money off pokersites? is there a good option for a thai bank you can open an account at and have direct transfers to that account?

is Bangkok safe to travelers right now despite all the violence going on? I ask because I'm scheduled to visit around the third weekend of july.

Why ask if it's safe now? If it's not back to sparkly shiny happy Thailand by the third weekend of July then something will have gone very very very wrong.

Either way, I think something has finally happened tonight. The past three nights I've been hearing gunshots and explosions pretty much non stop. Tonight there were a couple of huge explosions early in the night and there's been almost nothing since then.

Hey guys I am going to Thailand in September for 4-5months, since the situation in Bangkok is pretty ****ty right now, I will probably stay in Phuket.

Are there any vacant rooms in a poker house? Right now I am thinking about paying no more than $750/month is that realistic? Do you guys have any good internet sites for apartments to rent in Phuket?

Also how is the internet in Phuket, I heard it can be quite bad in Thailand, so I don't want to rent some place where the internet is breaking down every 30mins. Is that something I should be worried about when looking for a place?

I suggest getting in contact with rutang here. he might have something for you. $750 will take you pretty far

internet is good as long as you have the right ISP/package so don't worry. I suggest reading through a bit this thread. been answered a few times (like couple of thousand last posts from each thread. you have few months before you are coming so it will be worth it)

hey guys, I am about to book the flight now with gf for thailand, the one-way flight prices are almost half of the round trip so we are going to leave it open ended in case it works well and we stay longer than the 3 months, do we need to have the embassy do anything extra so that we can re-enter multiple times? Or with the original one do you get an acceptance to just do it a few times anyhow?

every embassy requires different things for a visa. I would contact the nearest one to you first (where are you from btw?) and ask with how many entries they issue their tourist visas (obv take the max entries, usually 3 is the max in the west). one way flight wont be a problem for getting the visa but some embassies MIGHT ask for tickets out of the country too (though this is rare)

it also says we need a confirmed itinerary but we don't want to set up round trip or full schedule, anyone have any idea on this what is sufficient enough before I book tonight?

I went to the embassy in DC since I was there already and they asked for proof of leaving the country. I just used a cheap one way ticket to Macau which I wound up not using but I think it was only like $40 on airasia. I tried getting multiple entries but the embassy lady crossed out my 2 entry request and put 1. They kind of did me a favor and expedited the visa for me since it usually takes two days to get a visa but they were going to be closed for holiday two days later so I don't know if I would have gotten two if it had been done like normal. I've also heard you can mail your passport to Houston and get the triple entry, don't know anyone that actually did it though.

When I was getting on the plane the guy at the counter said something about not boarding without a flight home but I showed him my visa and it was cool.

I would contact this embassy in houston and see what they want for a triple entry.

either that or just get single/double from anywhere and then if you decide to stay longer than 3 months go to laos or somewhere and get another visa

I've heard some really bad things about the consulate in DC in particular before. A bit late but I'd also just recommend checking out another one next time. When my gf and I were first coming here we visited the Houston consulate and after a 10-15 minute visit on a Monday afternoon our visas were ready to go at 10am the next day.

I just wish we had the foresight to pick up non immigrant O visas, but I didn't necessarily plan on staying here for years when were first leaving!

-passport
-2 passport photos
-application form
-visa fee using a money order made out to their address ($35 x # of entries)
-a USPS envelope addressed to yourself so they can send it back

the site in case you want to have a look:

what do you mean they are now free? About to ship out today with the monies, I really need another flight showing a re-entry to get 2? I'm not even sure gf will want to stay longer, if that's the case I'll just get the one, I have one way flight booked and hotel for a few nights while we search for places.

tourist visas are free atm until sometime next year

I told you to contact the embassy first to make sure you have everything for them. if you had done that you would know if you need to show tickets and that the tourist visas are free
