Been in Budapest too long, need some new scenery. Thinking about coming to Bangkok in a couple weeks. Any advice for where i should live if I want somewhere with 24h food options and restaurants/bars nearby? If I want to book 1 month at first, is airbnb my best option?

Is it normal to pay 3,7k baht for a box of antibiotics? Girl took me to rama 9 hospital, she said its private but one of the best. I was really surprised at the price tough. On another note: a quick medicine for diarrhea that can be picked up at a pharmacy without going to a hospital?

500 baht for a box 6x250mg zithromax (azithromycin) pills, the strong antibiotic that gets rid of gonorrhea/chlamydia, so that seems pricey.

Immodium for diarrhea

You can pick up most things from local pharmacies without going to a hospital/getting a prescription. Should have no troubles getting Diareah meds, just ask the pharmacist. No idea if the antibiotics were overpriced or not, sounds expensive though.

i like the Asok / nana area

foodland soi 5 is a 24hrs resto / supermarket, topsmarket has one stand open 24hr in the food court, some soi Arab (soi 3/1) restos are 24/7, another foodland on soi 16

some poker guys live in phrom phong / thonglor / ekkamai area and look down on nana cos of the hookers / ladyboys / hobos, they want classier girls, fancy bars and cleaner vibe, if thats u then thonglor has a foodland under pan pacific, just airbnb anything in thonglor

if u want sleaze and hookers like me Airbnb 15 residences on soi 15 or the trendy condo soi 13, equidistant between soi cowboy, soi nana, topsmarket and foodland

i think the best is living close to nana/asok area (phrom phong-onnut). i enjoy getting in the mix with the hookers every now and then, but i don't think i'd enjoy seeing/dealing with the **** every time i want to go to 7/11 or get some food at night.

Another option is Ratchada. I stayed in Huai Khwang for 2years and really appreciated the area.

Personally i can´t stand the Asoke area on a daily basis with all the working girs/lb´s, taxis and ppl who trying to get your attention.

In Huai Khwang no one will ever bother you while you walking around. Food, taxi and app/condos are cheaper. People are super honest and friendly.
In my two years i can´t remeber a time that a mb taxi tried to overcharge me for more then 10 baht. Some of them even refuse dip.

I stayed one year in Centric and one year in Rhythm, both next to the mrt. Imo mrt is way more convenient then BTS. You are not exposed to the sun while waiting for the train, not as crowded and both cheaper and faster.
One station away you have Big C, Street Mall and Esplanade just next to each other. Behind Esplanade you got Train Market which are my favourite market in Bangkok. Not as big as chatuchak for example and more chill atmosphere with a lot of thai style bars.

Two stations away you have Phra Ram 9 station with Central(mall), next station you got the airport link and just four station away and you are in the heart of Sukhumvit.

Ratchada is famous for soapy massage and they have parlours all over the place. No western style girl bars or gogo´s but a lot of working girls stay in the area. The biggest different vs Sukumvit is that they never annoy you while walking around.

Huai Khwang has a night market, basically just a random street with food vendors and stuff. But since they opend from the evening until the morning you can eat 24/7.

If you don´t have any experience from traveling maybe you should stick to sukhumvit in the beginning. Its not that many foreigner staying in the area and communication can be a ***** at times.
They have western food at the malls but if you mainly want western food Huai Khwang maybe not are the best pick.
Tons of Chinese everywere and i guess thats a drawback. lol

Centric

Rhythm

Easy to find cehaper options.

Thanks for the meds advice guys, I am not going back to the hospitals where they charge so much more for farangs then thai people, hate the health double standards, unless absolutely necessary.

On another note do thai people use toilet paper? I am asking since every girl that has been to my place has not touched it, so they just use the sprayer thingy? Ive had a towel once somewhat near the toilet and after i noticed some **** on it as well.

Also maybe I am just unlucky but over a larger sample I noticed that water never pours after they use the toilet, so like they dont wash their hands?

hahahahahah

I could just imagine a thai guest in your bathroom, frantically looking for the large banana leaves and in a panic grabbing your towel.

Can anyone recommend a decent muay thai gym in phuket or elsewhere? preferably by the sea.. dont get why the price of a gym in Thailand should be 4-8x the price of what I pay in the UK tho :/

I don't know about Muay Thai, but I asked the same thing about gym prices earlier. Apparently exercise in general is somewhat rare in Thailand. Demand is low, Supply is limited, so price goes up. It's the only thing I've found to be more expensive in Asia than in the USA.

From what I can gather the toilet paper finish after the bum gun is optional and I think rarely employed.
It's shocking how few locals wash their hands after wiping their ass with their hands.

Even if they wash their hands they hardly ever use soap. You gotta train them to do it if you see them more than once.

Good. I pick my nose in public several times a week and have been slightly worried I was being very offensive. Glad to know I'm among a nose-picking people.

Well I may be a bit of a clean freak, but I swear, everytime a girl stays here she leaves a bathroom in a disgrace. I dont know if its like dogs marking their territory or something but leaving hair everywhere, intentionally leaving makeup stuff behind, forgotten tootbrush... My theory is, they want to leave a trail so that another girls comes over she will notice her "presence".

Do you guys recommend any decent laundry service in On Nut? I have been lazy this month that I am here and just ordered do4you service, seems quiet pricey tough.

Also I noticed quiet some problems accessing torrent sites or sites where I would like to watch some movies, series. Do I really need a Tor browser to watch some South Park? Or is there an easier fix?

My new favorite way to watch things besides Netflix is get a European seedbox for 5euro a month then link my kodi to the seedbox and stream directly from the box. No download or anything.

Also uplay.tv I think is a steal at 150bt per month for normal TV like HBO, all the sports channels, etc... Like having true gold+ or something but with HBO.

Is airbnb the best option for a 10day-2 week stay? Looking for like a 2bed//2br. Seems like patong/bangkok has a lot cheaper options for housing but maybe not looking in right places. Any other advice appreciated.
Lots of airbnb listings at 'the base' it's a nice condo but rooms a bit small. But good location, internet, pool, gym, everything new. Can walk to nightlife.

Other condos a bit older but bigger, e.g.

Zenmate that free VPN chrome extension? http://southpark.cc.com is blocked in certain countries. The Pirate Bay shouldn't be blocked though.

No you dont need TOR. You need to use diff sites then you would use whereever your from most likely. All my sports and TV is from shady stream sites and some netflix.

guys thanks so much for all the help. Any decent sites to look for apartment rentals up to 10k baht a month? Anywhere from Asok to On Nut would be really cool. I am willing to stay for 6 months. Would greatly appreciate it

http://en.9apartment.com/ keep in mind up to 10k short term is very low by BKK standards so you'll be somewhere further outside, meaning MRT stations and On Nut or beyond.

I personally stayed at http://www.ipremium-srp.com/ a couple years ago, lower floors from 8k, free morning and evening shuttle to the BTS, has gym, no pool. Internet was crap, for any higher reliability stuff you'll need 3G.

KV Mansion is on the same road and in the same price range, closer to the BTS.

http://www.varrzon.com/varrzon-sukhumvit-36/#room_types

Thonglor, 11k for a studio, minimum 4 month contract, walking distance to BTS, nice modern rooms. Downside is 8b/unit electricity so your bills will be high, and slow wifi, 700b/month for 3MBPs. But you could not get that, buy a fast mobile 3G package and tether. And most short term apartments are going to charge a lot for electricity (usually 6b/unit though). An 11k apartment there is probably equivalent to a 10k one in On Nut adding all the savings from shorter taxi and BTS rides, can walk home from Thonglor nightlife if you mostly go out there.

http://www.libplace.com/EN/

Asok, 12k for a studio that isn't that nice, or 14k for a more decent one. I've seen pics of each. Prob equivalent again to a 10k room as you'd never need to use a taxi, can walk home from all the lower Sukhumvit nightlife, if you mostly go out there. Walking distance to BTS. 6b/unit electricity, wifi is free I think so take 700 off the cost it's really like 11.3-13.3k, wifi is faster than Varrzon. Min 1 month contract. I'd spend the extra $50-100/month to not live in On Nut because you'd lose that in time and transportation unless you never go out.
