It's dangerous enough driving a car on Thai roads...not a great idea dude

sure its possible, but I think you'd hate the drive back. Mae hong son loop is about 600km / 12hrs on crazy mountain roads. I drove it 3 hours / 6 hours / 3 hours, not consecutive days...didnt mind it.

I did bkk to krabi in a car taking my time, some nice places along the way. I'd recommend 7days each way on a scooter. Also might want to check ferries. Maybe there's a ferry like hua hin to pattaya or something. That hua hin to pattaya will suck, nothing to see there.

Whats the longest you've driven a scooter for? 14 hours each way sounds ****ing painful.

taking a car is a completely different story, I drove from Detroit to Vegas before and loved it, not sure I'd feel the same way if I was on a Honda Scoopy

That's why I said plan for 7 days each way, only way it can be done without torturing yourself.

What if instead of scooter you use real motorbike? And are speed limits on highways enforced or you can go 200km/h and noone cares?

Motorbiking 200km/h or even 150km/h on Thai highways sounds suicidial, WTF.

Perhaps i'm ******ed, but I feel most dangerous thing about scooter is that it's slow and you have ton of people passing you who don't pay that much attention to driving, and it feels safer if you drive little bit faster than general traffic so you rarely have someone passing you. Ofcourse you need to drive very focused, and 200km/h is big exaggeration, but something like 130-140km/h is probably enough to be the fastest guy most of the time, and if you have a decent motorbike you can stop pretty quickly.

Or i'm really ******ed

My experience on Samui/Phangan was a lot of the motorbike/scooter accident deaths were from dumb farangs who didn't even know how or have experience riding a motorbike in their home country, let alone in Thailand. Add-in the fact they were drunk or on whatever other drugs, and likely not wearing helmets, well, you get the picture. I think if you're an experienced rider, you should be fine, no?

Yea I guess I'm maybe romancing the idea of seeing some great sights/the experience as opposed to thinking about the potential problems with safety/weather/back pain, longest I've ever drove before is probably ~1 hour, never had the need to put in a longer trip.

Don't think id be able to work a motorbike, or at least I wouldn't want my first experience to be on a highway.

Gona put in some research regarding, weather forecast seems to look reasonable relative to the last week or so, the idea of making it a week long trip and including some ferry-ing sounds cool.

lol @ speed limits in Thailand....fair question if you are not from around here though...no such thing my friend, I been driving a car here for about 6 months now, and it seems that the general assumption is that if you aren't passing people you're driving too slow...

Its often mentioned to me how bad the roads are, huge pot holes etc, so just the idea of hitting one of those at 200km/h is what I think people would be worrying about.

i drove my step through 115 cc scooter 500km in 1 day from CM to taechailek/burma and back, took about 10 hours including a few breaks (the romanticism of the thai countryside is a REAL thing) as the breaks were awesome... only the last 2-3 hours SUCKED im planning on doing it again soon(speaking of which, can I go to the burma border crossing to the west of CM just as easily as I went north last time to taechelik?) I dont need a 30 day exemption as im 'proudly' activating my 2nd entry of my double entry tourist visa

the downsides are they are slow(so we must stare into the jungle more imo) so its not optimal for fun/safety (cant accelerate out of the way, or be driving slightly faster than every other vehicle, nor 'racing' around)

You can't access to any highway on a motorbike, even big motorbikes. Cops use speed cameras sometimes, but it's rare.

I drove a lot in asia mostly on dirtbike trips, but yes its a pain in the ass 7 days straight..

Altough Chiang mai to Pai was pretty sweet and mostly on the highway you drive 100km
average. Best way to ride the roads is with a psx honda, lol nice and comfy with 200cc..

U can acces big bikes on the highway no one cares in thailand or you pay a fine for 500baht tops..

No. Other drivers are maniacs and a scooter is the most dangerous form of transportation that exists. Your head is very fragile. Only takes a minor accident to cause serious damaage. The advantage of a car is that it comes with a steel cage to protect you.

Have a friend that was refused a 30 day extension at Jomtien immigration the other day. And now have read that they are refusing out/in border hops via thai-cambodian border (for multiple-entry tourist and non Immigrant multiple-entry visa's.

http://www.stickboybangkok.com/news/...all-visa-runs/

Has anyone experienced the same problems the last week or two, and can give any more info/solutions?

Cheers,
Dave
