1: The food costs a fair bit of money to produce and prepare. The girl isn't the one preparing the food, nor is she the one producing it all along the supply chain. By comparison, a girl going out with you after work isn't actually costing her, or anyone else, anything.

2: (almost) Nobody actually enjoys serving or preparing food, at least not after so many repetitions. This is a losing situation for her but a winning situation for you. Im looking to go back this year and hopefully stay longer, could recommend any places to stay long term in Bangkok and Chaing Mai with a solid internet. Also that fresh roast coffee shop Hillkoff is amazingly good. This thread can be pretty useful at times. CM is an excellent city for gourmet coffee lovers. Not just because of Hillkoff, but tons of little coffee shops everywhere serving high quality stuff.

Funny though the spot marked on the map on their website is totally off (around the corner and about 5 blocks away). If I didn't have a CM guy on skype that knew where it was exactly I might never have found it. Anyway first I approach this family running a small restaurant in the area and ask them if they speak English and told them I'm looking for this coffee place. The guy sitting at the table insists I sit down and share some of his food. I didn't want to be rude so I had some tasty BBQ chicken and sticky rice right off his plate while he poured me some cold water. They had no clue about Hillkoff, so I went on my way. Find out on Skype it's next to the Mercedes dealership, so I ask a couple older men standing in front of a nearby bike shop if they knew where the dealership was. Their English was very bad but I could tell they understood "Mercedes". He talks with his buddy for a bit signals me to wait and goes inside. I'm waiting like 3-4min thinking about leaving, but again not wanting to be rude. He comes out with an elaborate hand drawn map showing me how to best negotiate the one ways streets and get to the dealership.......wow, so this is kind of people you encounter in downtown CM.

You may not leave a tip per say, but in normal human interactions, even in the west one would usually bring a gift of some sort even if it is a bottle of wine, just to say thanks or very likely you will somehow repay the gesture in the near future.

Of course you will meet them in the bar and your expected to pay, but if they are coming around to your house on their free will for whatever reason you are a sucker if you offer them money. You are not responsible for them missing work or potential customers if she is spending time with you, nor do you owe her any financial obligation if she makes that decision.

I agreee if she calls you and asks you to come over and see you. However when that call goes down i think it is best to say Ok but i am not giving you money, ok? Understand? if you come it is because you want to, not because you want moeny OK?
