BTW whats standard police bribe here I used to pay 50k so $5 on a regular occurance in Bali for driving with no liscence. So I think 400 baht was way to much.

dont think its a bribe if you are getting a receipt lol

couple months back a mate was on a scooter in phukhet with no helmet. cop pulled him and said fine is 500 if you go to the station and leave scooter with him or can pay him 500 now save the hassle but get no receipt.

he negotiated it down to 200 and was on his way

true dat my buddy has a painting firm there, was offering 20aus per hour for unskilled labours, that's about 600b atm. More if you had proper trade either as painter or carpenter. I worked in Sydney when i was under 25 on the work permit, good times I'd snap call going back to aus over uk all-day-long-a-thong.

most people who are the driver wear one, although its partly because any farang without helmet is an easy ticket for police. you are the only person ive ever seen who has his own helmet as a passenger.

I wear one most of the time in bangkok, but sometimes dont bother for very short trips.

As to fines, it depends where you are. If at a busy spot with regular police booth/station(like in bkk at busy intersections) i'd expect to actually pay a fine and get a receipt. On the other hand if no one is around you are probably paying a bribe which is negotiable somewhat.

I got caught riding on sidewalk and no license in bkk, think fine was 400 with reciept.

I would probably head to Perth and try and get in the mines to get max value from visa the money is sick the even pay food accomadation and transport.

The mining towns are super boring but its usually 5 on 5 off or similar so you can work hard play hard.

I was seriously thinking of going back there with my welding trade but staying in Asia grinding is way more fun. I have a pal in Dysart at the moment earning close to $30ph

Yeah my friend is unskilled but a good blagger. you have to be prepared to BS your way into any job and learn quick when there . Everyone else is doing it so if your not lieing your way behind.

When I was there I told them I could drive anything without even being able to drive a car. I landed a farm job driving tractors but pulled it off for 3 months you can also rakeback your tax back if you stay longer than 6 months its just win win.

If you have drivers liscence you can pick up mine work fairly easy I hear

so can you just show up to australia and apply for jobs or is there a long process and many hoops you gotta jump through?

I have watched border control Australia and all you need is a work permit when you enter the country and enough money to show you can live there. You can also get jobs before you get over there.

from what I heard maybe a bogan can come in and correct me, but some of these labour jobs such as furit picking the convicts think its 'below' them, or something, thus why alot of people from the uk/usa/china and other European countries come and do it,there is meant to be alot of work.

There is a place under the canal bridge between Pra Khanong and On Nut, on the Pra Kranong side, that gives a good quality haircut and shave for 60 baht. Its air conditioned and the barber and the seamstress who work there are very nice. I usually just give them 100 baht bill and tell them to keep the change.
