I should really look into fish oil caps, how cheap are they? but im thinking if I eat 2 peices of fish a week ill be good to go and cheaper. Then again im not looking to make any serious gains, I bought some slim fit chinos the other day, if my legs get any bigger i wont be able to fit in them.
Fish oil is a total rip off almost everywhere. Except from my supplier in California. These guys have the best prices on everything. I've been buying from them exclusively since 2007. Back then I was a Chemistry grad student so I tested many of their supplements by HPLC/NMR/ECT and it's all clean pure legit stuff. The reason it's so cheap is they don't pay for labeling or advertising. It's all word of mouth in the body building community. The owners are well known and well respected trainers and diet coaches who still train current Olympia contenders. Back in 2007 you just got your protein in a clear food safe plastic bag zipped up and labeled with a black marker. Now they've expanded big time, have a huge customer base and you get a computer printed label with more details ingredients info (but still very generic looking).
A key thing that most people don't know is that there are very few whey protein manufacturers in the world. We all think we're getting diff. stuff, but it's all coming from the same few big suppliers then just repackaged with various fancy labels and exaggerated claims, mixed with lower quality cheaper materials and marked up 400%. It's all just about branding and marketing.
Anyway, I'm going to tie this into Thailand so I don't get in big chit.
(1) Depending on customs fees, I might still be suggesting these guys to people in Thailand. I've checked out the links from people here and I think even when you factor in high shipping costs from California, the fact that you're still getting the best whey isolate in the world for <$10/lb and 1000 1g fish oil gel caps for $24.49 (I never tested the fish oil in my own lab, but I have requested and reviewed their COA from the supplier and they do their own quality control as well as never keep the oil in warehouse for more than 6 months before restocking) makes up for the overseas shipping IMO.
For example, one site I got by PM on here Fit whey . com. 3799 baht not including shipping for 10lbs of DYMATIZE ELITE Whey protein Isolate. So we're already looking at $126 usd/can for 10lbs. But take once glance at the ingredients list and you know the label is misleading. Like most rebranded mass marketed protein powders, you're not actually getting PURE whey isolate. First clue (A) Ingredients: "Ion-Exchange whey protein isolates, cross flow microfiltrated whey protein concentrate" It's always a proprietary blend. So they are allowed to have any ratio they choose as long as they list all the ingredients. Meaning it's mostly likely 99.5% whey concentrate and 0.5% MAX whey isolate (not to mention ion-exchange is the poorest method for isolating whey as you lose all the sub fractions).
(B) Now I can confirm this by doing the maths. Pure whey isolate should be over 90% protein by weight and have 0% carbs (carbs from from the lactose in concentrates). Concentrates are closer to 70% protein by weight, give you gas and don't digest as quickly or cleanly. So look at the breakdown on DYMATIZE ELITE and its 24g protein in a 32.4g sccop (74% protein) and there is 6% carbs by weight on top of that.
Cliffs: It's an inferior low quality material. Not only that, but even with $80 shipping included from Cali to Thailand it's still cheaper for me to get 8lbs of Pure microfiltered 100% isolate that has 0% carbs and 27g of protein per 30g scoop (90% pure protein). Factor in this higher protein content and its a 90/74 = 1.21 conversion factor. So 8lbs from my Cali guys has the same amount of protein you'd get from 9.7lbs of DYMATIZE. So pound for pound the same amount of protein. From Cali it's $157 with shipping included to Thailand. From Fit whey . com it's $126 NOT including shipping. Now factor in that the actual protein is far inferior, and it's an easy decision.
(2) Living in Thailand where you want to grind gym, but the best value and most convenient food sources are not quite high enough in protein, you can easily tip the scales with just 3X 20g scoops of whey and 10 1g fish oil caps. When you want to get in a 1-2 hour grind before going out in the heat to source out some real food, having that 20g whey shake with some fish oil is going to make a huge difference on your results/recovery time.
Can always go to Big C and stock up on Rotisserie chickens and milk, but a clean shake with fish oil is much better on your mind before grinding than some heavy meat meal, which I have trouble stomaching in the morning anyway.
