thanks for the info, after having a look elsewhere it seems like you might get a fine and you may also get a stamp its not really clear. anyone else had to deal with this.

am thinking i may just extend my visa and stay another week so i can get the good flight. dont want to spend 10+ hours waiting in airports. am i right in thinking i can just visit the immigration office in bkk and pay 1900 baht for a 1 week extention so i can stay for 37 days total ?

I believe there is a grace period of a day or so.

One time I accidentally overstayed because I thought I had a 90 day visa (as always) but was given a 60 day visa (because I was applying at a Thai embassy where they usually give 60 day visas.) I overstayed 2 weeks or so.

When they check your passport, they send you to the overstay desk and you pay up. Quick and easy. The problem is that I didn't have any baht at this point and had to go back to main airport, use the ATM, then get back in line and pay up. This took some extra time that I didn't have because I always cut it close at the airport, trying to minimize my flight waiting time.

I made it though. I was the last person on the plane. They actually had a person waking down the terminal with a sign with my name looking for me... haha.

I believe you get 1 day's grace if you are flying, but not if you cross at a land border.

The stick itself cost 2000 baht and 200bt for the SIM. You don't need to buy the stick if you have a smartphone, you can use tethering. I don't know if the signal is as good with a phone though, probably depends on your phone.

Assuming this is still the best back up internet? If so my first priority will be setting this up after I land. Where exactly can I go that's convenient. We'll be hanging out in BKK for at least a few days after landing and I want this set up by the first or 2nd day.

Thanks

The first day of overstay is free if you leave via the airport. At land boarder crossings they will still fine you. It is like that for people boarding flights in the the very early hours of the morning.

Whether or not it will be good for you depends pretty much entirely on how close you are to a cell phone tower. I am less than 1km from the tower so it's great for me. You can see the coverage areas on the Truemove website. It doesn't cost much to try it out assuming you have a smartphone, the sim is only around 200 baht and the 90 baht package will be fine for testing the connection.

You can buy the dongles and sim from any Truemove shop which are located in shopping centres all around Thailand. You can top up credit everywhere, and to buy the data package you enter the USSD code into your phone once you have sufficient credit.

E.G if you wanted the 349 baht plan, you would first go buy 400 baht worth of credit (have to allow for 7% vat so the actual cost is around ~370 baht.) You top up your phone with 400 baht by entering the code on the paper they print out for you, then to buy the package you would enter *900*43# into the phone's keypad and dial. Shortly after you will get a confirmation message.

Then, if you are using the dongle, you would have to take the sim out of your phone, put it in the dongle, and stick that in the USB hub of your PC. Or you can just tether from your phone.

That kind of company would be easy to open and set up. I dont mean easy to be successful. But to get set up so you can begin applying for wp's etc wold take less than a month.

Pm me if you want a contact for a decent lawyer.

I just checked my passport and it expires July 18 2013. Is it worth renewing it before I go for $87 or is it pretty easy to get renewed in BKK? (I'm Canadian) How much is the price difference. My gf almost talked me into staying until Jan. But I'm preparing to leave immediately. Just need to get my tourist VISA and book a flight.

I would renew before leaving. If not its just another hassle you have to do next year. just my imo.

Yeah, if you plan on staying more than 6 months you are going to have major headaches trying to renew it over here. Get it renewed in Canada and you'll have 10 years.

you don't actually need a tourist visa. You are allowed to stay in Thailand one month and then just make a visa run once there...

Ya good point, but I live in Vancouver area so it's very simple to get double/triple entry visa then I don't have to worry about a border run for 3 months.

You can probably go to the Canadian embassy in Bangkok and get a new passport there. I got a new passport from my country's embassy so I assume Canadians are offered the same service.

That's why I'm asking. I specifically remember reading something about this earlier in this thread. Some guy was saying it's a very easy process. But I checked my OneNotes for this thread and I can't find anything on it I guess I forgot to save it. No point on renewing 9 months early if it's just as easy to renew in BKK. Can. passports expire every 5 years.

She's coming with. She just wants to stay for the holidays with her family first. We've been together since we were 18, we're 32 now. I'm allowed to do what I want. We're totally loyal to each other, whores don't mean ****. They are a good service though. Get laid without making gf jealous because it's just a whore. Only non hookers I'm allowed is if it's a threesome, which does happen also.

probably easiest to look at the Canadian embassy homepage. But for me it was real easy, I just brought with me baht and passport, and then I picked up the new passport one week later.

I overstayed 5 days - paid 500B for each day and did not get any stamp in the passport - do not think you get any kind of record for that. Just pay the fine..
