Hey Jack,
The weather in Barbados is pretty much the same throughout the year. Unlike England, nobody wakes up and asks what the weather is going to be like today. It is fairly predictable. It is around 28 to 31 C during the day and drops a few degrees at night. There is a steady NE trade wind that makes things feel much cooler except during the hurricane season when the winds might change.

Barbados is one of the most southerly of the caribbean islands so the natural path of most hurricanes past to the north of the island. There has not been anything close to a direct hit from a hurricane since 1955.

The rainy season is from June to October. The rain tends to be heavy thunderstorms and then its over as compared to the never ending drizzle that I was subjected to for several years in Southampton.

The biggest festival is our Crop Over festival. This is our national carnival and is huge.
It is held from June to August.

There is nothing specific happening at easter but something is always happening; reggae on the hill, Oistins Fish Festival, and golf and polo if you're into that sort of thing.

LIAT is the easiest way to get from one island to another. It is the regional airline. Late If AT all.

Depending on what standard of place you are looking for you can pay anywhere from BDS $500 to $3000. You have to give me some ideas. Expect to pay a little more for food than you do at home since a lot of our food is imported.

Transport around the island is reliable and cheap. Partying is also really affordable.

Let me know if you need anything else

i wouldnt be after anything extravagent in terms of accomodation - i had a google search and just saw one site where it was like $420 for a 3 bed villa near the beach that looked quite cool. idk if thats weekly or monthly tho im guessing monthly...

while i was there i guess id wanna be having drinks a few evenings a week, probs restaurant dinners a couple times a week (nothing over the top though). other than that, food would just be general groceries, bread, cereal etc...

in terms of doing stuff... i guess id like to go diving/ snorkelling quite a bit, would also maybe like to take a trip to a couple of other islands if theres an easy ferry/ air service.

idk the bds - gbp exchange rate, but if i could spend a month there whereby my living expenses didnt exceed £1k or so then id be pretty up for going.

That should be easy. I would check and see if that villa wasn't $420 per day though.
Diving and snorkeling is very good here.
No ferry service. There was one proposed but it fell through. You have to fly but its pretty cheap.

The BDS$ is tied to the US$.
1US$ = $BDS $
Sometimes that's really good for UK peeps and other times not so good..

G twizzle, have you seen the Bajan film "Hit for Six"?

http://www.hitforsix.com/

Rather good day of cricket for the West Indies. Hopefully they keep it up and at least force a draw.

Didn't see it. The producer wanted to use my club to film but didn't want to pay any location fees.
I went to school with Andrew Pilgrim though. Talented guy.

Do it together I think. It wasn't actually one of the more popular ones. When I get back home I will find out and let you know.

G Twizzle you working for the BTA too?

(And yes, I signed up just so I could type that)

I like the new structure you have set out for the tourneys, think I will run two satellites a month into your game and see how it goes!

Vegas baby. Let's get a posse (in the western sense) on that plane to the WSOP

The satellites have been running all month and we have nearly filled the final table just with satellite entries. One more sat Wednesday 27 at 730pm and the big one on Staurday. BDS$550 winner gets a trip to Vegas to play in one of the $1000 events. Satellite is $125.

G twizzle great thread. A couple of questions:

1. How hard is to gain Citizenship for a Canadian (my father is from the UK and still holds Citizenship there if that helps)?
2. What's the Police Service like there? Any chance of an immigrant getting hired?
3. What parts of the Island are considered "nice" (like better living conditions) or is the entire island pretty much the same?
4. My gf is a Physiotherapist and is there any clinics down there she could look for a job?

Very nice thread G twizzle. Sounds like a nice place I'll be considering in a few months or maybe toward the end of the summer.

Sorry for being so slow to reply guys. The thread hasn't been bumped for a while. To All Apologies;
1. Citizenship is tough. Resident status is easier to gain though investing in business to the tune of US $25,000.00 in a local business. Marriage is easier I guess.
2. If you are a specialist of some sort, drug enforcement, forensics etc., you may be able to get into the force. I have no real knowledge though tbh.
3. West coast is the best coast. But anything that says Heights, Terrace, Park, Drive is usually pretty nice.
4. Lots of physios on the island. If she has special skills, like Personal Training or Athletic Trainer etc. or some sort of specialized rehab maybe there is a chance. I have had to try to processing work permits for staff and its tough.

What's the chances of an Aussie like me getting into the West Indies cricket team? I'd argue that given recent performances, it couldn't hurt
