I don't have the pic anymore.

I'll find something better.

As for the F4, your parents have to have completely given up their Korean nationality and have signed naturalization papers to become US citizens before you are eligible to get one.

Good to be back. Though I'm not sure I'll be able to say that for too long. I'll be so bored that I'll be dying to come back to Korea.

At latest, I expect to be back by the end of the summer. I can't start applying until I get my TEFL certificate. So, I really don't know yet.

SuperUberBob,

How are your studies for the TEFL certificate going?

If you dont mind me asking, what were some the problems you had when signing up and how did you choose which... I guess agency to work for? It seems like there are a lot of potential scams out there and when you search for listings tons of sites pop up I was reading this one here http://www.tefl.com/jobs/results.html?searchOpts[age]=today&searchOpts[cou_id]=113&searchOpts[titleKeywords]=&searchOpts[jo_category]=0&searchOpts[ec_id]=0&x=43&y=8

Why do you need to get your TEFL certificate this time as opposed to not needing it last time, extra $? It seems hard to choose a legitimate certification program as there does not seem to be a single certifying authority and there are thousands of schools/sites offering certification courses but it just seems hard to tell which ones are legit and if there are any 100% online places available that are legit (seems doubtful). I guess I was considering teaching english abroad some day once I finish getting my degree and am just reading up on it now, your thread had some good info earlier so thanks for that.

This is a great thread, thank you SuperUberBob.

I got accepted from my university here in Finland to do a master's exchange in Seoul National University (I study Accounting & finance) so I'm really interested in all info I can find on South Korea. I'm not absolutely sure yet am I able to go because of personal reasons but atm it's the plan for Spring 2011.

Haven't browsed the whole thread yet and don't want to hijack, but if anybody has any experience studying in SNU (anything about it), I would be interested to hear. I assume OP hasn't got any info on this.

Hey howzit going. I am an English teacher here in the small town Danyang in the Chungbuk province. My main question is with regards to poker in South Korea.

I have been in Korean now since March and have played poker twice. The first time at the Hilton Poker room and the second this past weekend at Walker Hill.

I wanted to know if there were any other casino's or maybe even some underground clubs or anything of that nature that offered any live poker.

I was told that the other Seven Luck casino at COEX also have NL Hold-em tables. Is this true?

While I really like Seoul I was wondering if there was any poker elsewhere in the country.

If you play regularly where do you prefer playing and why?

Yes, COEX also has 1/2 and 2/5 NL. I think they also run the occassional 5/5. COEX is located at Samseong Station on Line 2 (Green Line). Once you get there, it'll probably take another 8-10 minutes just to walk to the casino.

Be prepared to play deepstack if you go there on Saturday/Early Sunday. It's common to see a couple players with 1000BB stacks. Furthermore, you'll frequently see $80-100 pot preflop. Most of the players are regulars, and you're not gonna see many weak players. Then again, you could make the argument that in the long run, COEX is the best place to beat the $15 rake. Give it a try, you'll probably find it fun.

Is everyone here in Seoul? I might have to make a trip up.

I'm a Marine stationed down in Pohang. I just got here about 2 weeks ago. Pretty chill so far.

God, I hate Pohang. Possibly the worst city I've ever been to in Korea. The pollution there is brutal.

Side note

I posted about my birthday blackout earlier in this thread.

What I found out two months afterward is that during my blackout phase, I broke up a close friendship by saying that one person called the other condescending. It's true that the one person said that to me about the other, but it was in a different context. Then I was approached with the chance to apologize and told the two people to **** off. I think they eventually made amends. Still, I am a massive douche when blackout wasted.

Throw that on top of winning a single-table poker tournament (apparently, I folded all of the hands and just started shoving ATC HU) , handing my wallet to a cabbie (got it back next morning), running up a 100,000W+ tab and getting permanently banned from the foreigner bar (heard about that later also) all while blacked out and it was a hell of a night.

I stayed here on a few occasions:
http://www.humanstarville.com/en/yeo...?main=1&sub=11

I stayed in the deluxe room which is basically a one bedroom apartment. Small kitchen next to a living area with a nice tv, big separate bedroom with desktop in room internet ready. Koreans are way into serviced residences as opposed to hotels. Younger, college and early professional aged Koreans, book them for birthday parties for their friends since they all live with parents most of the time.

It's walking distance easily from Yeoksam station (green line) and 10 minutes from Kangnam station so honestly it's anywhere from 10-45 minutes from anywhere you would want to be provided you aren't looking for temples in remote areas.

If you're going with a Korean have them book it. First time I went my gf did the booking and she got the room for 20,000KRW a night cheaper than I could (about 20usd at the time.) Also, while very friendly at check-in, when I went there with another foreigner it was tough conveying the fact that I had already booked a reservation online (which I had, I didn't bring my receipt like an idiot...) Enligsh was spoken but it wasn't too fluent with the night shift. Not too sure they get a lot of solo foreigner business being a residence and all. To their credit, they figured it out 15 minutes after they pleasantly checked me into another room and moved me to where I was supposed to be with no hassle. It's a classy, if no baller thrills, joint.

Anyway, if you search hotel discount sites a bit the room I had can be found for 100 bucks a night even on the weekends. Koreans can get it cheaper then and I'm sure I could too on the weekdays if I was smart enough.

Don't get fooled and book the one in Cheongdam because it's cheaper. While they're relatively close, the Cheongdam one is adjacent to the 7 line, not the 2 which could add 20 minutes or so to your commute. It's not in the middle of everything like the one in Yeoksam is.

If you're super baller you prob wouldn't be posting here, but just in case you are you should check out the Shilla. I did a few shows there and it's just an incredible place. Incredibly pricey as well, though. Be prepared for 300usd a night...

access to the 2 line was my biggest idea on locationx3. But you do raise good points. If that's what he's looking for Cheongdam certainly wouldn't be a bad choice. Hell you could probably jog from one to the other and not get tired.

Humanstarville is really pricey if you're looking to stay there a long time. 4k/month is huge. Is it possible to rent a place for 4-6 months for a foreigner? Or any other ideas on places to stay?

Short answer is that it's going to be possible but really freaking difficult. You're likely going to be asked for a lot of key money. I'd recommend having about 10kusd ready for your initial payment on a 1BR place just in case.

Have you looked into the VISA requirements for this? This isn't Thailand...

yeah humanstarville is pretty much a ripoff (though incredibly convenient if you don't care about money) u'd be better off just staying at oakwood premier which is attached to 7luck casino at coex same price as humanstarville except its a hotel so u have room service etc

and u can just walk right into the casino and stack ajjushis in the live games
