Besides Resorts World and maybe Casino Filipino, the only place I know that you can play poker is in Metrowalk in Ortigas although I'm not sure if you're allowed to gamble there or it's only for tournaments.

58 minutes long! I skimmed through it. Curious though... how do you guys living in Manila get around? Cars? Taxi, Bus, Motorbike?

Doesn't exist...

Main sport is basketball, followed by billiards and boxing. Soccer is growing though because of the Azkals.

It does exist, Ken Griffy Junior was there taking batting practice at the main field in Manila 2 weeks ago. www.baseballphilippines.com

Baseball is considered 2nd to Basketball.

Anyway, if anyone that lives in the Philippines knows anything about the Baseball league there, send me a PM. The 2011 season opener is April 16th.

Yeah, watched it all as well. Was in Manila for a few days last summer and had pretty much the same reaction. And I've seen poor cities before. The only city that could compare to the poverty in my eyes was the outskirts of Sao Paulo.

Those people are literally at the end of what they can do to survive. Overcrowding is going to completely choke that city very shortly. It has the potential to get ugly.

One thing I was a bit disappointed with was them beating you over the head with poverty, poverty, poverty and while that's certainly the case, a lot of those folks are very happy and the doc just wasn't interested in showing much of that.

Didn't know they had that. Either I'm not a fan or I just don't see Philippine baseball on TV after 22 years...

No worries, they have it in a lot of countries and no one knew it was there. Sweden, South Africa, Netherlands, Belgium, I've played in all of these countries and with the exception of the Netherlands, most locals didn't even know it existed.

I'm guessing your flying to Palawan from Manila with a return flight booked?

If your not wanting to fly anywhere then I would say either Puerto Galera or Subic. Both are within relatively close locations to Manila.

Or with 5 or 6 days you could always still fly somewhere else

There suppose to be one real baseball pitch in Manila from what I've heard where they play. I think they have some kind of league.
You should be able to find it through google, otherwise I try to ask next time when I meet the guy who told me.

Hey thanks for replying. Ya, I searched a ton on google. I found a league, but its really hard to get in touch with anyone from there. www.baseballphilippines.com is the main website. If you are able to talk to anyone in person about it I would appreciate it. If I knew I could get on a team over there i'd book a flight today.

They got back to me about playing baseball and said they'll try to find a team for me, if so I'll have to be there in 2 weeks, kinda short notice but was hoping you guys over there could help me out, not trying to spend a lot of funds.

1.) Does anyone have a room they would like to rent for a month or longer?

2.) Any good suggestions of a monthly apartment that is good value?

Yeah it's a good docu, accurate about typical life for a local.
Don't like the end tho about hero donating. Like that's probably instantly gonna end up with random relatives/borrowing to friends and a fancy new cameraphone rather than some intended college fund.
*If directly to the host family that is (which I might have gotten wrong)

Sucks to have become this cynical but yeah :s

nice documentary... some parts are really sad, but one part that made me laugh was when he was in the jeepney and he pulls over for diesel to refuel half way through a jeepney trip with all the passengers still on board.

same thing happened when i was in cebu riding on the back of one of those motorbikes where you pay them to take you somewhere, on the way to the "top's" lookout. the motorbike driver randomly pulled over into the fuel station halfway through... i wasn't sure what was going on... and then we get back on. then a few minutes later, he stops at a shop to buy some biscuits ^_^ lol
