Metagame question Metagame question

Have you ever not bet or raised with the nuts when a single opponent
checks to you or bets out on river?

I recently played a hand from a 22 rebuy on stars, where I bet the
river with a straight and about half my stack behind, and my opponent,
who had the stone cold A-high nut flush (no pairs on board, no straight
flush possible) simply called my bet without raising.

Can there be any reason, other than carelessness, for doing this?

ps. No...this was not intentional chip dumping.

Sounds strange I know.
Thats why I am posting the question

I've never done it; but it is a penalty in WSOP events.

I've seen this happen at least twice, probably 3 times total in the 3-4 years I've been playing. I think people are just ******edly scared? I really, really think its cause they are afraid and I know that sounds stupid but my friend showed me a dialogue between two people about AA, where one guy said "risking your entire capital on AA preflop is stupid" (Note: this was NOT in the context of a satellite or a similar situation).

Well, I think many players just multitable or are otherwise distracted and thus may not realize that they have the nuts in some hands...

Edit: and in some games, there are also players that don't realize that they have the nuts, even though they are focussed on the hand

Jonathan, in the hand you are referring to it was simply bad play by villian not any orchestrated metagame.

But if I recall correctly, Jennifer Tilleys quad kings were not
the nuts......there was a possible straight flush out there.
