KK on AT7, 2-flush board KK on AT7, 2-flush board

$1.5K at Borgata Saturday, original stacks 8K, level 1, blinds 25/50. I raise in 2nd position to 175 with KK. Villain calls in 5th position. Flop comes AT7 with a 2-flush. I sometimes check here, but I bet 300 and villain calls. The turn is a 5. I check, villain bets 500 and I call.

Villain remarks that I have QQ. The river is another brick. I check, villain bets 1500 and I fold. I was a little unnerved by the remark that I had QQ and that made me more inclined to fold. However, afterward, I thought villain might have a busted draw and put me on JJ-KK.

Villain and I were apparently randoms to each other at that point. Later, villain engaged in all sorts of table banter. He also informed us he was 28th on the Card Player "Player of the Year" standings and was one of the best players in the room. I deduce from this he was Will Failla. This information combined with the comment about QQ might make me more inclined to call him down.

Comments on the river fold and the other play of the hand?

I've played with Will both in one of the $600 sngs at Foxwoods last Foxwoods Poker Classic and also in some 5-10 games in private clubs. That said I think you are beat here a lot and probably check fold river. He does however think he is real good, and is in fact probably very mediocre, so I might spite look him up here.

Yeh, I agree. He went on and on about what a great pro he is. I didn't particularly see that from his play and results in 3 hours.

I think a cbet is good because it knocks out the lower pp etc that call pf. Turn check call is ok, but you need to decide what you will do on the river before calling. I know that you are getting decent odds to c/c the turn, but you can't really call unless you put him on a weak bluff (aka he wont bet river also), because calling another river bet is going to be tough.

I think when you take the lead line with KK on an A-high board, you have to be more willing to check/fold the river, since your hand isn't really underrepped. As for the hand in question, since Villain is checking more often than betting with draws on the turn, I feel pretty strongly that he has an A here and I think your laydown was good.

Haha my bad Kramer. jetguy - do you do a lot of betting with the intention of folding out worse hands?

Why don't you explain why your goal in betting is to knock out hands drawing to two outs? What do you usually have in mind when you bet?
